Fair use rationale for Image:University of Kaiserslautern seal.gif

edit

Image:University of Kaiserslautern seal.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Myzinsky claimed that the official name of the university is "University of Kaiserslautern" and not "Technical University of Kaiserslautern". I can find no evidence. Rather, they seem to refer to themselves, even in English-language documents, as "Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TU Kaiserslautern, TUK)" and explicitly call themselves a "technical university" (which of course they are). The name "University of Kaiserslautern" seems commonly used, but not by them, and it doesn't appear to be the official name. Huon (talk) 01:04, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Apparently the eponymous category is Category:Kaiserslautern University of Technology, which seems even less of an official name and sees less use than either of the alternatives. The category should be renamed. I'm not quite sure whether WP:COMMONNAME implies the article title should be "University of Kaiserslautern" or "Technical University of Kaiserslautern"; personally I'd move the page to the latter title since, given the dearth of English-language sources, going with the translation of the official German name seems more appropriate. Whatever the page's title, the category should be made to match it. Of course it doesn't help that several of the few articles in that category should likely be deleted. Actually, none of the above mentioned options in English are correct. The university's president (back then Prof. Dr. Helmut J. Schmidt) send an email (Jan 24, 2018) through the university-wide newsletter that the official name in English is the same as in German, i.e., that it is not supposed to be translated. Moreover, it was specifically mentioned that the translations "University of Kaiserslautern", "Technical University of Kaiserslautern", or "University of Technology" often lead to wrong interpretations. The university is now Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), or seemingly the university calls itself just University of Kaiserslautern-Landau in English. This is created by the merger of TU KL (of which this page is about) merged with the University in Landau, effective 1st January 2023. https://rptu.de/ https://rptu.de/ueber-die-rptu/organisation https://rptu.de/en/about-us/organisation

Should the page be updated or a new one created for the successor organisation?

The German variant of the page is also not updated. Dave-246-357 (talk) 13:37, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Created University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, following convention of German wiki. Dave-246-357 (talk) 22:25, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
