Managed by Travis Penske??

In the opening paragraph, it is stated that Penske Racing is managed by Penske's son Travis. As a long time open wheel/IRL fan, I have never heard this. Roger Penske is personally involved with the IRL side of the team. Their web site mentions Walter P. Czarnecki as the vice-chairman, Tim Cindric as the president, and Don Miller as the president of Penske Racing south. There is no mention of Travis Penske. --rogerd 13:43, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Penske Racing #12 history clean up

I cleaned up the part of #12 history on the article. The #12 part A was about history before penske, and was not needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Halo 31887 (talkcontribs)

I just added it back on there. It is still part of the team's history and contains relevant info. --D-Day I'm all ears How can I improve? 20:43, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Penske.jpg

Image:Penske.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Marlboro

I re-wrote the Marlboro sentence, because it was misleading. It was well-known that the MSA was looming, and by 2007, they would have to remove tobbaco brand names from the cars. However, Penske still receives Phillip Morris/Marlboro money to this day. The cars, just like F1 cars had done before, are simply painted in such a fashion to get the idea across. To suggest that Marlboro is no longer "sponsoring" the team is misleading. Because really they are indirectly.

Also, Marlboro was on Al Unser Sr's Indy-only entry at the 1989 Indy 500. Marlboro was full-time sponsor of Emerson Fittipaldi at Patrick Racing. In an unusual "double," Marlboro wanted their logos on 2 cars. Patrick had 2 Marlboro cars at Indy in '87, but not '88. Marlboro simply went to the best team out there who was willing to add a third car for Indy. When Patrick reorganized after the '89 season, Fittipaldi took Marlboro with him to Penske. So in order to have 2 Marlboro cars, Emmo and Danny Sullivan both had Marlboro cars for 1990. Sully's former Miller sponsorship went to Patrick's new Alfa team in a sort of "sponsor trade" since they have a parent company in common. Doctorindy (talk) 00:45, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

1994 CART IndyCar World Series

I modified this section to clarify the nameplates on the engines used by Penske Racing during the 1994 season. The only race in which Mercedes Benz livery appeared on Penske cars or Ilmor engines was the Indianapolis 500. The article previously incorrectly mentioned "Ilmor -Mercedes Benz" engines were used during the entire season. This was not correct. At the end of the 1993 season Ilmor ended its association with Chevrolet and at the beginning of the 94 season, all Ilmor 2.65 liter Indy car engines were badged "Ilmor Indy V8" Unfortunately for both Chevrolet and Mercedes, the marketing benefits of 11 of the 12 wins enjoyed by Penske racing that year were lost to both manufacturers. At the beginning of the 1995 season, all Ilmor Indy car engines were re-badged "Mercedes Benz" on the cam covers. AHIAPRP (talk) 06:54, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
