Wikipedia is not a sales brochure edit

Whilst Te Mata Estate is most certainly noteworthy, some of this article should be edited for "sales pitch" tone, length and repetition, and many of the references are somewhat inadequate. Jon (talk) 11:58, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Te Mata was established in 1896. The oldest winery in NZ is Mission Estate, established 1851. Wine shops and auction websites are not good citation sources for this kind of information. A large part of the history section is copied verbatim from the Te Mata site, there is a lot of repetition (buildings in use since 1896 is mentioned at least four times), and the recognition section belongs in a sales brochure. A summary from a good secondary or tertiary source should be sufficient (e.g. Cooper's NZ Wine Atlas, an overview article in Decanter or Wine Spectator, a Bob Campbell article).

New Zealand's oldest wine estate? edit

Although Te Mata Vineyards and buildings were established in 1896, The Mission Estate claims continuous operation since 1851, albeit having moved more than once due to flooding or earthquakes. Its Grand Maison building was built in 1880 and in 1910 was moved to its current Greenmeadows location which was purchased in 1897. Te Ara Encyclopedia of New Zealand asserts that Mission Estate are "New Zealand’s oldest surviving winemakers", as does Cooper's NZ Atlas and other reference works. Thus, different wording is needed in the opening article. Jon (talk) 11:52, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
