Shia view wrong! edit

The reason Shia Muslim views this as bid'ah, is because a mustahab prayer shall never be prayed in congregation. See Article 147, Optional Congregational Prayer during Ramadan (Tarawih) - Doctrines of Shi'i Islam - A Compendium of Imami Beliefs and Practices, by Ayatullah Ja'far Sobhani (trans. and edit. by Reza Shah-Kazemi)

I m new here. So I don't know much about editing. The following pages are similar or related. Should they be merged into 1 page? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salat_al_Layl ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahajjud ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarawih ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sura_Tarawih . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Verycuriousboy (talkcontribs) 13:24, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The sentence about the alevi view might not be correct. Do Alevis perform salat? Is labelling acts as bidat or innovation a part of their philosophy?

"Diaspora" edit

That term is not appropriate for religious adherents. There is no "islamic" diaspora. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.0.233.112 (talk) 01:58, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Prayers Of The Night edit

Taraweeh Prayers

The Night prayers to Muslims are the prayers that are at night, they are not neccesary but you can do them according to the Prophets Sunnah. It is usually done in the holy month of Ramadhan and most Muslims usually perform it then. The Taraweeh ususally comes inbetween Asr and Mughrib. The Arabic translation for this is: Prayers of the Night, because we pray them between two night settings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Islamrocks (talkcontribs) 17:14, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The External Links section - deletion. edit

I have had a look at the "External links" provided and I do not believe they provide WP:NPOV views on the facts of Tarawih, rather they are a collection of differing views across internet and unofficial websites. There is no need to prpvide telecast links and youtube videos as a seperate section. This is not a video re-direct site and I'm sure the videos do not adhere to Wikipedia:CV. Moreover, the links provided seem to be pushing for particular views where there is little consensus among the scholars. Rather than simply posting links that support your agenda, please contribute to the text of the article. Complicated issues of Fiqh should not be thrown amongst a NPOV factual article on the basics of tarawih, even if you had added to the text, let alone just add links with no discussion. Therefore, I am deleting the "External Links" section to avoid sectarian views of who is correct and who is wrong being added. Wikipedia is not the place for this. Either contribute to the text using reputable citations or leave the article as it is. Wikipedia is not Google nor is it Youtube. Any issues regarding deletion bring it up on my talk page or flag it with an administrator. GiggsIsLegend (talk) 17:35, 31 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

See WP:EL, while the links themselves do not have to be flawlessly NPOV the harmony of links provided should represent balance views. I am struggling to find nice EL for this article.--Inayity (talk) 07:40, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the support. I am also struggling to find appropriate External Links. The old links provided here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tarawih&oldid=566304077 were just editors pushing their own views are facts. A wise man once said "You should read it an never know the race, religion, geography, or politics of its editors" and I agree. Let me know how your search for good links goes, I'll try and do some research on the topic aswell. Thanks :-) GiggsIsLegend (talk) 15:13, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Request for Comment regarding proposed merger/redirect edit

The Merger Noticeboard has received a request by Verycuriousboy (talk) that Salatul_Layl (a redirect to Tahajjud) be instead merged/redirected to Tarawih; reason: none given. Discuss below. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 18:54, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reason of merge request : They are similar versions of s particular Salah. Verycuriousboy (talk) 06:32, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

They are similar but aren't the same thing, and thus I strongly oppose such a merger. Tahajjud is another word for "qiyam al layl," but "salat al layl" is not a commonly used term in Sunni jurisprudence; check all the fiqh manuals and what is found is qiyam, or "standing," at night as Muslim prayer requires one to stand. I do believe Shi'a say "salat al layl" and salat means "prayer." They essentially mean the same thing but Tahajjud is used by everyone and is a better name for that article.
Tahajjud is an infinitive for praying at night, so I can say in Arabic "Steve tahajjada" or Steve prayed at night. "Steve yatahajjadu" means Steve prays at night, present tense. It's a general term for an optional thing Muslims can do year around.
As for Tarawih, then it is a very specific thing for Sunnis. It is an optional congregational prayer which is performed at night during Ramadan and is one of the highlights of that month for Sunnis. I vaguely remember the Ibadi denomination performing it as well, I can't remember. Shi'a don't do tarawih, they just do regular tahajjud in any month of the year. Still, they are entirely different things as one is general, year around and accepted by all Muslims, while the other is specific, congregational, done only in one month, not by all denominations and for those that do it's a big deal. Sorry, I thought the proposal was to merge tahajjud here, not salat al layl. That's actually not a problem. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:16, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Change 'tarawih is from the sunnah (recommended or lit. words and acts of the prophet Muhammad).' to 'tarawih is recommended as the Sunnat-e-Muakkada(not obligatory, but a person who abandons them is considered blameworthy)' 58.145.184.225 (talk) 15:02, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
