1. According to Banis & Shoebe, Portlandness: A Cultural Atlas, at the turn of the 19th century Chinese immigrants managed a collection of thriving truck farms along Tanner Creek, roughly where the Civic Stadium/Providence Park stands now. I don't know how reliable this book is about this fact, although the article on the stadium alludes to this.
2. Tanner Creek would have crossed West Burnside street at some point, proving that Burnside was never used as a logging road to skid logs from the West Hills to the Willamette to where the road reaches the Willamette. So the urban folklore that Burnside was the original skid row is clearly wrong, & that honor goes to Yesler Way in Seattle.
