Talk:Tanggula Mountains

"Official name" edit

(a) Doesn't really matter. We should mention it in a footnote, sure, but stick with the common English name (if there is one) in the running text. It's also pretty dubious that the English name must include "Shanmai" instead of "Mountains" or "Range".
(b) Needs a source and some caveats. Obviously, the "official" name is in Chinese and Tibetan, not English at all, and may have as little authority as the fact that the PRC would like everyone to stop calling Mt Everest anything except Zhumulamafeng.
(c) Seems to simply be an admission that both the Chinese and Tibetan names are acceptable, not that the range should carry both names at all times. Again, needs clarification. — LlywelynII 10:24, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Agree with your comment, there is no "official" English name as such. I think the part you moved to ref with the "dubious" tag can be removed. In any case the various namings are already mentioned in the lead. --Pseudois (talk) 23:41, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
