It comes from the early version of his father's article, which places his death no more precisely than "after 1085". I don't know why; his father's article has long been corrected to be more precise. (September 1100 comes from Lupus Protospatharius. The Dizionario biografico article from 2001 accepts it, but this Coniglio paper from 1976 rejects it, citing a charter from 1104 as showing Geoffrey still alive at that date.)
