WP:NOT#NEWS edit

some of the updated article is really starting to fall in WP:NOT#NEWS such as "The office sponsors cultural exhibits such as the 2009 "Nation of Splendor: Taiwan, the Republic of China," which was hosted at 2 Allen Center in Downtown Houston.[7] The mission also sponsors the Hou, Hsiao-Hsien Film Festival in San Antonio along with the Trinity University East Program.[8]". • Maybe the exhibit could be a NEWS thing, but from my understanding the Hou, Hsiao-Hsien Film Festival is an annual event... WhisperToMe (talk) 05:23, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
but is the "Hsiao-Hsien Film Festival" a notable event, ie would it pass WP:N? LibStar (talk) 05:27, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
WP:N is mainly for deciding what is an appropriate subject for a Wikipedia article; it doesn't so much govern what is inside the article. The page says "These notability guidelines only outline how suitable a topic is for its own article. They do not directly limit the content of articles." I guess my point is entities sponsor other things all the time, what makes sponsoring this festival worthy of reporting in Wikipedia? otherwise it's WP:NOT#NEWS. LibStar (talk) 05:47, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, NEWS is acceptable to include, but it has to be treated in a certain way. The section says "While including information on recent developments is sometimes appropriate, breaking news should not be emphasized or otherwise treated differently from other information. Timely news subjects not suitable for Wikipedia may be suitable for our sister project Wikinews." WhisperToMe (talk) 23:15, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Now that this article has survived the AfD, I propose removing this final sentence. LibStar (talk) 06:10, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
