As for the photograph with yachts - that's totally up to you, but as far as I know the photographer Sergey Kopylov who took all the photos from the airplane complained that they're all uploaded by somebody for public access. I just want to reiterate that August 30, 1943 Taganrog was liberated from the Nazis. This day is celebrated citywide every year as "The Liberation Day" or "The Day of Liberation of Taganrog" [1], [2],[3]. Let's call things by their proper names! ISasha (talk) 09:37, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Regarding Governor of Taganrog edit
If someone wants to discuss the topic, let's do it here prior to introducing any changes into the article. For your guidance there is an article on the subject in the Russian-language Wikipedia - ru:Градоначальство Thank you. ISasha (talk) 19:01, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- My only concern is that "governorate" is a poor choice of term to translate "градоначальство" (although, of course, not incorrect per se), because in Wikipedia it is mostly used to refer to "губерния". Once the need to describe the administrative-territorial structure of the Russian Empire arises in some other article, a different term will need to be used anyway (or it won't be possible to compare the different types of divisions), so why not use that term consistently in all articles, including this one? Referring to different concepts by the same name in different places never leads to anything besides confusion :) May I suggest "City Governorship" or some such term?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); April 18, 2012; 19:29 (UTC)
- I understand. "Governor" seems to be the only adequate translation of the term. Most good dictionaries offer "Governor", some suggest "Mayor" as the translation. The fact is that in Taganrog as well as in Feodosiya, Kerch and Odessa there were simultaneously TWO: governor or градоначальник who was responsible not only for the city of Taganrog or say Feodosiya but for a much larger area, which included (in case of Taganrog) Rostov, Nakhichevan, Khartsyzsk, Mariupol etc., much broader functions and responsibilities; and there was also a "mayor" of Taganrog or literally "head of the city" - городской голова, who was responsible solely for the municipal problems. These 4 seaports were subordinated directly to Alexander I and further to other Russian tzars, which puts them in the same rank as Губернии. I've studied local history, and I am author of five articles on Taganrog governors, so I think I know what I'm talking about. "City governorship" is a clear explanation, but to me this sounds really weird especially in combination "City Governor of Taganrog City". I suggest leaving it as it is. - Oh, I have nothing against using "governor" to refer to the office ("Governor of Taganrog" seems perfectly fine to me); it's using the term "governorate" to refer to the administrative division that I feel uneasy with. Almost all our articles about guberniyas are titled "XXX Governorate", and since Taganrog was not a guberniya but rather a gradonachalstvo, it shouldn't be referred to using the same term. Taganrog and its role in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine edit
I have seen news reports in RS that Ukrainian civilians have been forcefully deported to Taganrog from Mariupol by Russian forces.
Some sources on this include: Reuters and Guardian. Is it OK if I add an some information about this here, or is this a case of WP:NOTNEWS? Hx7 20:22, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
