Lively and witty

I'd say the "lively and witty" description applies only to the first two movements- about halfway through it becomes quite serious and tragic at times.--Saxophobia 13:28, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Wagner quotations

Should Mahler be mentioned?

Should Mahler be mentioned in the influences section? It seems to contradict what the composer's page says: "1927 also marked the beginning of the composer's relationship with Ivan Sollertinsky, who remained his closest friend until the latter's death in 1944. Sollertinsky introduced Shostakovich to the music of Gustav Mahler, which had a strong influence on his music from the Fourth Symphony onwards." Requesting consensus to move section 'Notable Recordings' to new page Symphony No. 1 (Shostakovich) discography

First of all, calling all the recordings listed here notable would probably be inappropriate and using Recommend Recordings would be too POV [as pointed out by Wspencer11 on Talk:Symphony_No._4_(Shostakovich)]. I, therefore, suggest that we move the section to a separate page entitled Symphony No. 1 (Shostakovich) discography. Requesting consensus. Centaur81 (talk) 09:05, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
