The method of symmetry breaking constraints can be used to take advantage of symmetries in many constraint satisfaction and optimization problems, by adding constraints that eliminate symmetries and reduce the search space size.

Many lay readers would not suspect that mathematics is what this article is about after they read that. I added some initial context setting. You cannot assume the lay reader has heard of combinatorial optimization or that those words would suggest "mathematics" to such a reader. Michael Hardy (talk) 18:54, 7 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
