Talk:Sykes' monkey

It should be noted there is a dispute on the taxonomic designation of Sykes. Some categorize it as Mitis(cords, rowell 1986) some as Albogularis (groves 2005) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.191.29.171 (talk) 20:30, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

UNH Bio 412 Honors Editing edit

I revised the only paragraph that was there, and made the information correct. I then added paragraphs on descriptino, distrobution, habitat, behavior, ecology, threats, and consorvation efforts. Honestly this page was barren and I had to write everything from scratch because the tiny information that was given was wrong.

You conflated this subspecies with the overall species. That makes things very difficult to weed out the subspecies-specific information. I've reverted the change. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:40, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ral1092: I've reverted you again. Please deeply review your work. This article is about a subspecies of the blue monkey, not the blue monkey species. - UtherSRG (talk) 17:32, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
My research was specifically done on the Sykes' monkey, the subspecies. I am not sure why all of the work is innacurate when I specifically found research on that subspecies of monkey. Ral1092 (talk) 16:27, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Reverted again. Please do not restore this as is. Do not add information about taxa that are not explicitly about Cercopithecus mitis albogularis. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:29, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll go through the references you used one by one later today. But in a nutshell, taxonomy has changed and anything that is not explicitly written about C. m. albogularis is either talking only about a population of this subspecies, or about another species or subspecies. - UtherSRG (talk) 17:45, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok, here's the list of refs you added and what is wrong with them:

    •  N Is about C. albogularis, which means it includes information on taxa that are not currently regarded as within C. m. albogularis, including some taxa that are now regarded as separate subspecies (C. a. erythrarchus is now C. m. erythrarchus) or no longer considered as a species/subspecies at all (C. a. schwarzi).

    •  N I haven't requested access to this, but from the summary which says 23 species and 55 subspecies of guenons I know it is using an older taxonomy. See guenon for the taxonomy we are using (which mostly corresponds to what the IUCN and ASM's MDD use.

    •  N Doesn't even mention this subspecies. In fact the only C. mitis subspecies it mentions is C. m. kolbi.
Lastly, your changes to the lede are incorrect as well: Sykes' monkey ..., also known as the ... Blue Monkey, is a subspecies of the blue monkey. They are a type of Vervet monkey in East Africa. First, saying "blue monkey is a subspecies of blue monkey" is at best poor wording. Second, vervets are not only a different species, but they are in a different genus entirely!
