Talk:Swedish Rite

Latest comment: 10 years ago by Bengsig in topic Officers, Comparison, etc

I found a Swedish page in English on the rite - might serve as inspiration for more content here: Åke Eldberg's Home Page. --Thomas Munkholt 20:28, 7 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Apparantly the page was written before and deleted... but the talkpage survived. I've cleaned it of it's single comment "Propose speedy deletion. How do I do that?" dated 15:59, 12 Apr 2004, but not signed. WegianWarrior 07:12, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Lutheran Churches

edit

I'm removing this from the See Also section as there is no relevance between the Swedish Rite Freemasonry article and Lutheran Christianity. Jachin 23:37, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Redirect?

edit

I am thinking that the stub article Freemasonry in Sweden might be redirected here. Any objections? Blueboar 17:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not as such, except if we do we must make clear in this article that while masonry in sweden uses the swedish rite, the swedish rite does not equal only swedish masonry. Y'know what I mean, I'm sure :) WegianWarrior 17:31, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good point... I am now thinking that they are not actually two articles on the same topic... but inter-related articles on seperate topics. Rather than merge, we should expand both articles so we can properly note how they interconnect. Never mind. Blueboar 17:55, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Slight misstatement re: York Right

edit
  • The Swedish Rite, like the Knights Templar in the York Rite demand brethren be Christian, and not just that they believe in a supreme being.

This contains a slight misstatement: the York Rite does NOT demand that its members be Christian... Yes, Knights Templars swear (in the name of Christ) to uphold the Christian Faith. Yes, the degree is overtly Christian in its content. And Yes, this usually does mean that members of other faiths don't join, but nothing officially limits membership to just Christians or says members of other faiths can't join... I personally know of one Jewish Sir Knight who employed quite ingenious and tortured logic in justifying his decision to join ... but as long as he felt he could swear his oaths in good faith (pardon the pun), he was allowed to join.

That said, I do understand the analogy and it isn't completely wrong... we just need to work on it a bit. Blueboar 22:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Officers, Comparison, etc

edit

I have added these two sections (and made a few other minor modifications) with the primary purpose of explaining how the Swedish rite differs from the far more widespread Craft masonry. It is, however, important to note, that I am myself a Danish mason, and that the sections (and the whole article, really) would benefit from being verified by somebody from the other countries using the Swedish rite.
