Talk:Survival Island

I don't think the plot section is accurate (Just saw the movie for the second time last night). They aren't having an affair when her husband shows up, they've simply bonded... the two men act like two men tend to do, fighting and being jerks until ultimately Manuel basically rapes Jennifer, causing Jack to hate them both and turn into a murderous sorta guy. The way the article is now it sounds like he was a villain from the beginning and that Jennifer had already forgotten about him for Manuel (i.e. having an affair rather than rejecting his friendly advances). Shrug, it's just a dumb movie on Showtime, but accuracy is a good thing.

Fixed all the wrong or made up details in the synopsis. --Kumagoro-42 (talk) 03:46, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think the 'mistake' about the reef fish might be explainable, as only Jack actually gets his fish from the reef, Manuel only gets lobsters from there (are reef lobsters also poisonous? I doubt it), and later on Manuel actually tells Jack not to eat certain reef fish as they're poisonous (I believe he said 'the yellow ones'). While Manuel has fish, he's shown fishing for them closer to shore.

Re: poisonous reef fish

edit

I removed the poisonous reef fish language because it is simply not true. People have survived for thousands of years eating off of the reefs of the South Pacific. In fact I personally ate reef fish for a year an a half during a Peace Corps stint, and never suffered from ciguatoxin poisoning. That is not to say that ciguatoxin is not a danger, just that it does not occur universally on all reefs, in all fish, all throughout the year. Furthermore the poisoning is rarely deadly, and is mostly related to the eating of fish from heavily polluted areas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leisz77 (talkcontribs) 22:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
