The BBC article isn't very clear. It says,

Speaking on Radio 1's Zane Lowe show on Wednesday, Bellamy said he had been approached to write a song about the Olympics a year ago, but the project "went away". "Then when we were asked to play the ending ceremony, the song had developed so we got the Olympic people in to hear it and they said they'd love to use it as the official tune," he said.

Sounds non-significant; I suggest we remove it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:03, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I think it's definitely significant for the article, considering they're discussing the background behind writing the song. Hopefully more interviews turn up soon to shine some more clarity. Ruby 2010/2013 15:29, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
How is it significant? How does that impact on our understanding or enjoyment of the song? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:19, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
