Re: Fastest Growing Database edit

Hello @StereoFolic

I noticed you removed a source about SurrealDB being the fastest growing database, and this appears to be the case for me at least when looking at Github Stars as a metric.

It's about to surpass MongoDB which has been around for a little over a decade. Mr vili (talk) 22:28, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I removed the claim that it is the fastest growing database of all time, however I added the graph and noted that it is "one of" the fastest growing databases Mr vili (talk) 23:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The TechRound article claiming that SurrealDB is "the fastest-growing open-source database project of all time" appears to be a reprinted press release - see it appearing basically verbatim here and here. Press releases, being primary sources, are certainly not reliable sources for such subjective and fantastic claims as these.
Github stars are also not a reliable source or meaningful metric of much; stars, like any social media engagement, may help us understand a part of the product's growth history, but can also be misleading or even (very easily) synthetic. While interesting, your graph and claims derived from it amount to original research, which has no place in Wikipedia articles. If a reliable source wrote about the star history as a notable factor in SurrealDB's history, we could include those claims. As I can find no such source, I am removing the claim and graph.
