Theatrical Notability
editThere don't appear to be any set criteria for what constitutes a theatrically notable show. However, the article as I have just edited it suggests notability through:
- Duration - This show is in its fifth year of performances, and is the longest-running show of its kind in Chicago.
- Distinction - This show is an example of Interactive and Environmental theater, which sets it apart from most shows, locally and nationally. In addition, it uses magical and psychic performance as key elements, which distinguish it even further.
- Media coverage - There have been many articles written about the show over the span of several years, some of which have been noted in the Sources section.
Significance?
editI don't think I understand why this show is significant enough to include in Wikipedia. Can someone tell me why it's more notable than, say, Jimmy Tingle's Off-Broadway one-man show in Cambridge, MA? Tim Pierce 13:22, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps I don't understand the nature of Tim's inquiry: if his hypothetical show can be substantiated by verifiable sources, why wouldn't he consider it "significant enough" to include? Or is there a special standard to which Wikipedia should hold American Plays —
- Number of personnel (which would exclude all monologue shows like Mark Twain Tonight or The Belle of Amhurst)?
- Length of the show's run?
- Creation of or performance by an A-list celebrity (which would exclude all shows featuring fresh talent)?
- Location (New York and Chicago are probably the highest-profile theater towns in the U.S., but would you dare to exclude everything else)?
As a point of clarification, the show currently in question — Supernatural Chicago — can be readily verified, has garnered considerable media attention, and has had a lengthy run in a major theater city of Chicago.
- I'd suggest a merge into the article on Neil Tobin. It is a one-man show, after all. Crypticfirefly 06:13, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
••If so, then perhaps Hal Holbrook's entry should be merged with the entry for his show, Mark Twain Tonight.
