Plagarism & bias

edit

I dramatically edited the text to reduce plagarized content. It may need further editing. Original text:

The Superior Hiking Trail is a 205-mile long distance footpath that follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior in northeastern Minnesota. It begins north of Two Harbors, Minnesota, and ends just before the Canadian border.

[...] Considered one of the best hiking trails in the country, the Superior Hiking Trail is truly that... Superior. [...]

The Superior Hiking Trail was conceived by a group of individuals in the mid-1980s who banded together to form the Superior Hiking Trail Association. SHTA is a member supported non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the human and financial resources to build, promote, maintain, protect and preserve a hiking trail along the ridgeline of the North Shore of Lake Superior.

See Superior Hiking Trail Association website for plagarized source. -- BlueCanoe 22:50, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

The lead

edit

I'm working with two classmates in an effort to rewrite and improve some of the elements on this page, one of them being the lead. Currently it lacks the quality of a well written lead and is the edited result of past plagiarism. My classmates and I intend to rewrite the lead within the next few weeks. The new lead will contain broad information about the trail with some small cite able details thrown in. This will better "funnel" readers into the specifics of the article. Feel free to make suggestions and give us feedback on our progress. Brianmg5 (talk) 00:31, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ok, The lead has been updated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianmg5 (talkcontribs) 21:34, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Content

edit

I also think that this page needs some work with the plagiarism and organization. The page should be divided up into topics instead of everything in a big clump. The lead need needs to be rewritten as said above by brianmg5. Some topic dividers could be about history, geography, wildlife, camping, etc...Mherwig (talk) 02:37, 1 April 2010 (UTC)MherwigReply

I agree Mherwig. I think we need to create a table of contents and start figuring out how were going to divide this article into good sections. Maybe to start, a sections on the history of the trail, flaura, fauna and management. Maybe a section on each section of the trail and have info like the length, difficulty, when it was added, features like camping and water availability, and special things for that section of the trail. Structure

edit

After writing a new lead, I reorganized some of the existing information into sub sections. Also, thanks to Mherwig, this article now has a History section. Brianmg5 (talk) 21:37, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Confilcts

edit

The SHTA has conflicting information on the length of the south section of the trail. [1] says that it is 42 miles. [2][3] says that it is 39 miles. I have 39 miles entered as of right now Trapeterson (talk) 01:23, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
