Calling for a semi protect in 3 days

With the new site being launched, who knows what infomation regarding smash will come out, but I know that there will be vandilists here to make a joke of this article

I propose that we make Super Smash Brothers Brawl semiprotected in 3 days, which means it will be protected for 24 hours before the site opens, and 24 hours after.

And one last thing, to whoever vandilises. DO NOT WRITE ABOUT A CHARACTER UNLESS NINTENDO HAVE ACTUALLY CONFIRMED IT WILL BE IN THE GAME!

Thank you Cocopopz2005 23:22, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I concur with that statement 76.182.228.118 23:37, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

The page is already semi-protected, since March. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 23:38, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

That sounds great. It protects the article from vandalists and people with good intentions but overall get in the way (like me). Block away. (Zojo 23:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC))

*sniff* nobody reads my comments. Doesn't anyone see the locky thingy at the top right? Everybody loves locky thingies. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 23:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
  • ahem* there are certain characters I know who are in the game... (mainly because I either saw their stages or some info was "leaked") Dark Ermac 11:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Does anyone know the new site's name?--User:Rat235478683--

It seames to be the same. Anubiz 00:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Is it being transfered to a different server? Also, what do you think the chances of new info being released is?--User:Rat235478683--

Remember that Wikipedia is not for speculative information, rat. BassxForte 01:26, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

(embarrassed) Yeah, I'm just wondering if Nintendo confirmed the release of new characters or not.--User:Rat235478683--

Hmmm, it has been proteced, i can see the lock, but there's no msg that usually says new or non logged in people can't edit the article? Cocopopz2005 04:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

See Template:Pp-semi-vandalism for info on that. In general, the message at the top is used for short-term protections, while the padlock in the upper right is used for longer periods. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 22:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
And Wikipedia:Protection policy. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 22:05, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Besides, protection isn't supposed to be used preemptively in anticipation of vandalism. --Brandon Dilbeck 21:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Site update soon

I just visited the website and... wow. The site wasn't accessable, but there was a counter near the bottom of the page stating that there were 4 days left. 4 days to what? Release? New info? Move to a new site? WHAT???

Well, it seems I'll have to wait another 3 days to find out... Dark Ermac 11:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

check the last archive, we've been discussing the new site. Djchallis 11:30, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, we have to wight untill later. Anubiz 11:46, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I guessing that everybody here is 90% sure the update will include a lot of new info. (Zojo 13:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC))

Or at least some new info. Let's not speculate. Joiz A. Shmo 14:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

It will give us somthing, but lets not speculate. Anubiz 15:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

People, people...saying not to speculate over and over accomplishes nothing. -Sukecchi 17:34, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes it dos only 100 more untill it scinks in. Anubiz 17:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

More like 10 million more before the people get the hint. Vilerocks 18:19, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but this dos not help the page. Anubiz 18:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Is this enough? ;) — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 22:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

No not quite need a few more.

Now that the old site is not up some of the sources are gone. And just lead to a dead end. Any suggestions? Air Head 23:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

There was a heading about this same thing before, but it mysteriously dissappeared. And as for the links, most of them lead to the character bio's, which are going to be scrapped once the game is released anyway. We'll see how it goes. RandomGuy42 02:18, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

By "mysteriously disappeared", I think you mean archived. 75.153.231.20 04:38, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

No I don't. I meant what I said. Check the last archive and you'll see no mention of any site update. I could also show you the link where the disscussion (and 1 other) was deleted. RandomGuy42 07:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Try Archive.org. Dark Ermac 11:30, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Argg! Nintendo's pretty tricky. Today's the day when the site is supposed to open-but it hasn't. Instead it says "Starting Today!" Unknownlight 15:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

God-damn bastards! QUIT HOLDING OUT ON US!!!!!!!! Sorry about that, but I just had to get it out. - Smashman202 15:17, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Umm, you do realize the site goes by Japan's clock, don't you? It'll be about one more hour before it reopens. Marty091 23:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

The site has been updated! A list of composers, new info on the Battlefield stage, and gameplay (which is just like the last two games) has now been added to the website. --MOTHER4 11:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Developer

At the bottom of http://www.smashbros.com/ it says that HAL Laboratory is the developer. Should we add this instead of the unknown?

Air Head 18:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but the page is locked for 3 days. Anubiz 18:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I thought it was for one day before and one day after. Which would mean it's still editable. Air Head 18:48, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I thout it was. Anubiz 18:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

If I can I will do it. Air Head 22:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

It's semi-protected indefinitely, not for three days. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 22:51, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Best not add anything til later. In the end, it might be HAL Labratory/Sora. Who knows if Sakurai will include his own company. (Zojo 22:52, 18 May 2007 (UTC))

He did introduce himself on the official site as Masahiro Sakurai of Sora. (Zojo 22:54, 18 May 2007 (UTC))

But at the bottom of the offical site, it says HAL Lab, and not Sora. See what I mean? Air Head 23:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

But do we know that's referring to the game? — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 23:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Rather than the website itself, or something else? — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 23:03, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Good Point Malcolm. Until the credits are seen the Developer is not HAL. Angry Sun 23:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I just think its kind of weird that they wouldn't put copyrighted by Sora along with HAL and Nintendo. Right now it says "Copyrighted by Nintendo/HAL Lab."Air Head 23:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

No it just says "Nintendo/Hal Labratory". Angry Sun 00:21, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

The exact text is "©2007 Nintendo/HAL Laboratory". — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 01:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

What Malcolm said. I don't know how to put the copyright sign up, but basiclly I thought I got my point across.--Air Head 02:15, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Hasn't it been explicitly confirmed that development would not be taking place at Hal? Hal just doesn't fit anyway. It's not a new studio, like Sakurai said would be making Brawl. 75.153.231.20 05:15, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Copyright notes do not signify the developer. They just own the name. In this case, Nintendo and HAL owns the name of Super Smash Bros. - Zero1328 Talk? 07:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, HAL and Nintendo just own the franchise. That's probably why those 2 are there. At the end of the credits in Melee, it says rights to the game...blah blah blah...reserved by Nintendo and/or HAL Labratory. (Zojo 18:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC))

It says on the top of the English page[1]:

This is the official site for the Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl—a place where I offer personal, straight-from-the-creator reports on the project. -Masahiro Sakurai (Sora Ltd.)

Quite confusing. ~ Oni Lukos ct 21:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

uh-oh

Has anyone noticed something's messed up with the timer on smash dojo? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I checked yesterday, and it said 4 days....I checked today and it still says 4. Maybe my computer's out of whack, but could someone clarify this? --Superbub 23:27, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Check again. It says three days for me. Also remember that it is going by Japan Time.--Air Head 23:29, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

That is correct, considering that it still says "3 days" as of May 19, 10:04 Eastern Time Zone in the US here. magiciandude 14:04, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

You could just do it the text way. Left "(",C,Right ")". Angry Sun 02:17, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Good thing come to those who waite! Anubiz 13:58, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Can someone figure out though when the site is updated for each time zone here? I'm on eastern time and it'd be nice to know what time Monday the site will be updated. (Zojo 18:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC))

Should be 9 AM. If not, it'll be at 8 or 10Tuesday42 20:41, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Subjects like these lengthen the page with unnecessary subjects. Check and ask on Nsider. FMF|contact 18:46, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I cannot see how it is unnecessary to ask when people can expect to see the actual update? (Zojo 19:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC))

Well it may seem necessary to you, but keep in mind what the point of this talk page is for. You knowing the time the site updates is not very hekpful to the article. 75.153.231.20 19:32, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

It kinda is important to know the time the site updates. It could have new info for the article, remember? oh, and thanks to all for helping to clear this up....for the most part^_^--Superbub 23:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

okay, i just checked, and it says two days for me. Yippee! now, someone has to be willing to stay up till 10:04 on sunday night(if magiciandude is correct), so we can update. I'm excited!--Superbub 23:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

It was actually 10:04 AM here on that day, so no. We'll know if this should be in the article IF Sakurai reveals new info on the game in the relaunched site. If he doesn't then it shouldn't be in the article at all. magiciandude 12:52, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Hold on! Now that I think about it, isn't Japan usually one day ahead of us? Will this affect whether or not we will get news earlier from Japan or not? magiciandude 12:54, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
No, it gets updated at the same time, which would be 10:00 AM here. Also, they would release SOME new info if they were to have a big 7-day countdown...—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dark Ermac (talkcontribs)

Good point. Oh and, I signed for you. magiciandude 17:04, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

At magiciandude: okay, well, either way, it's only one day away oh yea!--Superbub 19:08, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

I use EST, so I'm waiting until 11:00 over here. Dark Ermac 11:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Blog Site

The blog, http://nintendrone.blog.com/, includes basically information we know already and kind of restating the obvious, maybe some new info. Can we trust it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.4.210.141 (talkcontribs)

I've read that guys post in GameFAQs and he's done past interviews before. However, Wikipedia needs a more reliable source than a blog. Also, when you're done posting, please sign your name using four tiles (~~~~) magiciandude 18:41, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh man, this guy sounds reliable. We'll find out soon if he has the right information. If in the case that what he has listed is correct, do we mention it in the main article? 75.84.185.89 20:53, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

These dos not help us. Anubiz 21:05, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

It "confirms" all the characters will be returning from the first game... Dark Ermac 22:16, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Where? Anubiz 22:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

For Anubiz, here (bold by me): Not all characters will return. The original smash bros. will. But I think a couple of his comments should noted, such as "Since there’s a huge fan-demand for online play, the game will almost definitely feature it. That’s the plan.", "There won’t be anymore ‘clones’", and "There are definitely characters that will be huge surprises too, one of which happens to be my absolute favorite." Even so, I don't really think a blog is a reliable source for Wikipedia. And anyway it's only one more day before the smashbros site opens. I can wait. Unknownlight 00:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

So Falco is out? Great! Anubiz 00:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I interpeted as saying the clones will get their own uniqe moves, rather then just slightly altered moves. Vilerocks 00:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Or they could be alternate costumes... Dark Ermac 11:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Eather way it is a great imporvment. Hope Ganondorf has beter moves was just plane sad in the last game Anubiz 01:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

There's a million blogs out there with that "OMG I have secret info which I will leak to you, drop by drop" theme, none can be trusted. This one is no different.. It's just for attention and probably some sick fantasies. Powerslave (talk-contribs) 02:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

The person who wrote the blog tends to be trustworthy... tomarrow we'll find out. Vilerocks 02:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Based on what evidence? -Sukecchi 02:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I've seen some of the other thigns that guy wrote. Vilerocks 03:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Listen, regardless of his trustworthiness, I don't think ANY blog is a good enough source to put into an encyclopedia, short of the blogs of the creators of the game. DurinsBane87 03:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree with DurinsBane87 even though he may be trustworthy who knows how much of it is true. Air Head 03:35, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Like I said earler... "tomarrow we'll find out". Vilerocks 04:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

everything the blog says makes sense and seems reasonable, but i don't trust it in the slightest. as far as i'm aware, no other news site has reported this information. the blog doesn't even mention specifics about the interview, it just gives out information. but anyway, the blog suggests that its news and more will be revealed when the site launches, so let's just hold off a few hours and then we can update the page with decent sources. Djchallis 06:51, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I've never heard of Nintendrone before. I know we might as well wait the few hours, but just for fun, does anyone know how reliable they are at all? 75.153.231.20 08:48, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Guys you are fourming. Anubiz 10:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

And you're not? "So Falco is out? Great! Anubiz 00:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)" "Eather way it is a great imporvment. Anubiz 01:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)" You're as guilty as them. Besides, when the site updates we'll add this to Archive 10 so we have a clean page. -Sukecchi 11:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Gentleman, just do your best to make the article the best it can be. So many people who are on site-blocking computers will turn to Wikipedia for the info. (Zojo 14:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

No I was asking if I was interating the data right. Anubiz 14:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

update

Hasn't it been updated yet? It's monday in Japan now. I can't check the actual site cause i'm at work.Tuesday42 15:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I can't see it either. Can someone be quick about telling what's new? (Zojo 15:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

There's a note saying "Starting Today", so apparently it won't be up and running until later today. Disaster Kirby 15:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Sort of. Nothing yeat. Anubiz 15:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

No it hasn't. My Computer is showing a Red X! Angry Sun 15:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. Please keep us posted if possible. (Zojo 15:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

It still says "Starting Today" (Japan Time) Air Head 15:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Maby this was just to teses us. Anubiz 15:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it's midnight in Japan right now. I don't think Nintendo is going to launch a site when the majority of their country is asleep. Comrade Pajitnov 15:58, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

D'oh, frougt about that. Anubiz 16:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

First off I'd like to say sorry for not sticking with article additions. Now I've got 2 things to say to Anubiz

  1. You aren't helping
  2. Learn to spell, moron.

And one thing to say to Pajitnov:

  1. Are you kidding? Midnight would be perfect! The Japanese would get to wake up to something new, fresh and exciting.

Wikiman232 16:04, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Which is why they would update it sometime in the morning. They're not catering to those crazy obsessed otaku who are still awake waiting for the website to update (myself included). Also, Anubiz seems to go in and out of good typing to bad typing. It's very odd. Comrade Pajitnov 16:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I hear from somebody on SSBB's GameFAQs community (and no, this is not a reliable source) that the latest update will be at noon, Japan time. I've forgotten why, but his logic seemed reasonable. It's nothing to do with people staying up 'til midnight. 81.79.103.242 16:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Sometime around 9 to noon makes most sense to me for them to update it. Meaning it won't update untill around 11 to midnight for everyone here on the East coast D: Comrade Pajitnov 16:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, they need to keep us in mind. And wikiman, don't be insulting people. It's a happy day, no reason to fight (Zojo 16:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Sorry, dude. Wikiman232 16:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

If my logic is right (and I really, really hope it's wrong) the site won't be updated until tomorrow as today here is yesterday for Japan so if it's Japan time, today means tomorrow! D: Unknownlight 16:28, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Dude get a grip its only a 12-hour difference. Wikiman232 16:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

That would be midnight, which is tomorrow. Maybe he update will be at sunrise for them. Anubiz 16:42, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

It may be at midnight, it may be at tomorrow, it may be sooner or it may be later; for the moment it's not now, so for the moment we're pretty much stuck at this position. :( Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 17:20, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

How mush longer untill sunrise for them? Anubiz 17:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Remember, someone had to change it to 1 day to today. Someone did change it at midnight(japan time). It may be a matter of when they're done polishing it off. They could be working on it at this very moment. (Zojo 17:51, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Sunrise to them would be about 5 PM for us. (Zojo 17:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Techniclly they don't need someone to be there to change the date, it can be done automaticlly by the computer. Air Head 18:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I thout I said that, and thank you for that Zojo. Anubiz 18:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Don't they know they're killing us here?! I just hope it is just a matter of finishing up the update and we'll see it before 7 PM today. (Zojo 18:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Relax play the first 2, we will most likly know by morining. Anubiz 18:14, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

This might be useful. Its about 3:16 AM in japan right now. Wikiman232 18:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

You know there's gotta be people still awake in Japan waiting on this update since midnight. Why would they make them wait? (Zojo 18:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Zojo, chilll! Anubiz 18:20, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Seems reasonable that it'll be updated around Midnight, so everybody calm down and wait. Also what do you suppose, this means? New characters and info added, or just a site renevation? --User:Religione Atomic

Relese date, at least. Anubiz 18:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

If its midnight here its gonna be 4 PM on the 22rd in Japan Wikiman232 18:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

And it still says this, hours after it was supposed to start??? Dark Ermac 19:00, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Guys, it'd be much better to stop speculating and simply waiting for the update; there's no reason to have this page full of useless posts (no offense). R-RockMan.EXE 19:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Why is it always the discussion topics I start that become forums?Tuesday42 20:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Odd isnt it? I guess you just have to be careful... ---User:Religione Atomic

Tomorrow all it will probably say is, "Updates started yesterday" Anubiz 21:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea what you just said, are you possibly dislexic? (No offense) User:Entei-Anubis

He's doing it on purpose I think. Angry Sun 21:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Entei, not your business. Angry Sun in a sense yes as I forget to always use my Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Anubiz 21:14, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Your...Dragon..? Just try to spell correctly, NBD. User:Entei-Anubis

Can you get a lion to become a vegetarian? Well me learning to spell is harder. Anubiz 21:44, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

anubiz has indicated on his user page that he has a spelling disability. please follow wikipedia's standards by refraining from personal attacks and assuming good faith, this is meant to be a team effort. Djchallis 22:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I had no idea, that was ignorant of me. I apologise. User:Entei-Anubis

Yeah, give Anubiz a break. Is it possible they'll totally focus on Japan and not the US? Seems like they could find a balance. I think 7 PM here, which is 8 AM Japan, sounds pretty reasonable for both regions. I guess I have to wait 15 min to find out. (Zojo 22:45, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

You know, it might be May 22 for us. It does say Japan time. There's no guarentee that we'll get it on May 21(our time). (Zojo 23:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Well, now, let's see... It's about 8:50AM now Japan time on May 22nd. They may be updating at close to midnoght our time. (Great, another work day to get through...) Dark Ermac 23:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought it was May 21 right now. Well, it still doesn't matter. If they live up to there word, the update should be between now (8:00 PM May 21) and 11:00 AM May 22. So we should get something by 11 AM tomorrow morning, hopefully. (Zojo 23:57, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

Don't worry, I'm on the case. I may have about 30 minutes of free time at 6 A.M.--Rat235478683 AKA Aipom, MarioWiki patroller--

I got all day free (schools over), I'll check the site periodically.--User:Entei-Anubis

Yes, please list info immediately as it comes. I would be very appreciative if you could. Schools block everything except wikipedia. (Zojo 00:15, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

I figure it'll be updated in either the next 20 minutes, or in 2 hours, 20 minutes. So either 20:00 or 22:00 my time (US Central). Marty091 00:40, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Just thought you'd all like to know. It's 9:44AM in Japan. [2]Angry Sun 00:45, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

And now it's 10:00. I'll be on tomorrow at 7:00. Dark Ermac 01:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Just now I checked, and still no update... Erik is losing the last vestiges of his sanity over this... Uh, I mean, I am. Sorry. With all due respect to the Wikipedia is Not a Forum rule, I believe this counts as a bit of an extraordinary circumstance; once the site goes up and these forumish sections get archived, the Forum rule should be put back into effect. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 01:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Why shouldn't the Not a Forum rule be in effect now. we don't need to discuss the site not being up, we know that. there's no, repeat, NO reason to make this a forum because a company is late with a deadline, especially since they technically arent late yet and we're talking about matters of hours and days. DurinsBane87 01:38, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, I just assumed the rule was temporarily suspended based on the existence of this thread. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 01:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Another hour's passed... still nothing. That's another busted brain cell.Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 02:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

ha ha, but I thought the site gets updated at 10:00 A.M. japan time? Either way, I'm going to bed.

tommorrow will be the dawn of a new day!!!--Superbub 02:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Sleep?! HA! The mix of my ADHD and the anticipation for the sites update have given me an extreme case of insomnia...why does Nintendo torure us so?! ---User:Entei-Anubis

For those living near San Francisco the site should be relaunched by 7 am on May 22 and by 10 am on the same day in New York. It is at these times that midnight will occur in Tokyo. I hope that is helpful.

Those of us going to sleep will find a pleasant update in the morning. Those staying up will be so for hours of coffee drinking. Suckers! I apoligize for the taunt, but I've got a quota to fill!Tuesday42 03:18, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Site relaunch at 7am in San Francisco time zone: Is that so? Where's the source that states that it's at that exact particular hour that the site would relaunch with potentially new information? As much as I would love to believe that and therefore not be disappointed with each hour that passes uneventfully, I thought I read something about it occuring right at the start of this current hour... Guess that teaches me not to believe GameFAQS forums. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 03:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I said "by," not "at," 7 am in SF because that is the same time midnight occurs in Tokyo, the end of the day. It's not confirmed by an official source, I simply assumed that the relaunch would occur by the end of May 22 in Japan as the official site implies ("starting today"). But you're right, everyone might find a little more satisfaction in scepticism.

I just read the new Nintendo power they mentioned this it will be "a daily blog update on the upcoming title and other things that tickle his fancy" him being the game developer or something and the date will be May 22 but dont think it will be up by midnight for it hardy happens like that.

Sounds concrete, but can anybody vouche for you? Does anybody here read Nintendo Power?--User:Entei-Anubis

the site has officially updated now. it contains a new layout, which is primarily a blog (posts on the right, tag filters on the left). you can squeeze some new information out of it if you want, but there's nothing extraordinary yet. we have been promised "daily weekday" updates though, which sounds good. Djchallis 07:04, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

(Bedanged edit conflicts...) So, did I miss something crucial, or can I officially state, "Well, that was a letdown." You Can't See Me! 07:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Let down!? We've got a HUGE list of some of the greatest Japanese composers to ever walk the Earth (Motoi Sakuraba) providing music for the game, new screenshots, an official description of the first stage (Battlefield), a sample of music from that stage, and confirmation that there will indeed be daily weekday updates rather than the sporadic updates of old. Talk about an overload of information.--Claude 07:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Ah, so I did miss something crucial. Lemme double-check... You Can't See Me! 08:15, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

No only that, but daily weekday updates!--Rat235478683 AKA Aipom, MarioWiki patroller--

It's about time that site updated! And now we know it'll be updated at least once a day, we're going to be slowly drip-fed info as it comes. BTW, could we say in this article that '"Battlefield" has been confirmed as a stage on the official website' or is it too early? From the mouth of the man himself seems to be a pretty reliable source. BTW, are any of the composers on that list also composers from the Sonic series? If any are then it may give a hint as to whether or not to expect Sonic in this game. 195.195.15.250 10:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Mojanboss
This was unexpected. About the "forum" note above, this is a discussion page, right? Forums are meant for discussing, thus technically this is a forum. Dark Ermac 11:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
ARG! NOT A FORUM! Quatreryukami 14:18, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

As the gent above me, so politely implied that, this is not a forum and I suggest we keep our comments about the article, and less about the game itself. This is why we have SmashForums.--User:Entei-Anubis

Oh, so it's not a great big reveal of information, but rather a steady stream of new pieces of info up until Brawl's release. Which is fine, I think; this article won't be overwhelmed with info to include, format, and incorporate. It'll definitely make the page more active. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 18:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

We'll find out more as the days pass on what this site is intended to do. If info is released slowly, like a stage this day or a new character this day, this site is just meant to keep us happy until they can release (which may be a good while if that's the case). If they put out give out 3 articles a day like today, they may have nothing left to give us after a month or two. Anyways, looks like this article will be updated about 5 times a week so that's pretty good. (Zojo 19:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Hey,if you look at the music composers and the music for the games they have made, then you can get an idea of what characters are going to be in the game for example, Hajime Wakai, made music for pikmin, this might mean that olimar might have a slight chance, for being in the game. David Ready

Controller

I do not believe that enough is known yet, after researching further, to determine which controllers it will use, though it seems likely both the Classic controller and GCN may be supported.

Likely, but we don't know for sure yet Anubiz 21:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I think in some issue of Nintendo Power, it said GCN, but we need to be completely certain before putting it in the article. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 21:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. Although, when I was trying to edit the infobox, it would not show my changes. I added "|controller(s) = Classic Controller" to a new line between "|platforms = Wii" and "|media = Wii Optical Disc". Any ideas? --Laptopdude 22:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Probibaly shouldn't man. Theres no confirms on controls, or am I missing something? Quatreryukami 22:49, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I thought GC control was already confirmed? If that's true, awesome. It's the most comfortable controller ever. But you guys are asking the wrong question. Due to the popularity of the Wavebird, will the game have a rumble feature? Wavebirds and Classic Controllers don't rumble. Makes ya think don't it... (Zojo 22:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

I have wavebirds, and they rumble... Dark Ermac 11:32, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

This is still all speculation. Let's not get too into it until we get some confirmed information. Joiz A. Shmo 23:04, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

It's possibly compatible with all four options, Wiimote, GCN controller, Numbchuk, and classic controller. Anubiz 23:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Wavebird, wired GC controller, Wiimote+Nunchuk, and classic controller. Only half of those are capable of rumble feedback. Melee did a beautiful job with rumble. Will rumble be included in Brawl? (Zojo 23:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

If that wasnt a rhetorical question: We dont know yet, more info will probably be released when the site is back up. -User:Entei-Anubis

Whats with the name aneyway E A? (He dos not have a talk page, so I cant ask there.) Anubiz 02:30, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

He does now DurinsBane87 02:39, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes I have a talk page now(thanks Durin), but that has nothing to do with this article. --User:Entei-Anubis

That was why I gave you one. Now you guys can discuss your names on your talk pages instead of here.DurinsBane87 02:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Anyway, we know something now. About how to play. Anubiz 10:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

SPECULATION, SPECULATION, FORUM POSTS SPECULATION! Anyway, the how to play section says nothing about controllers, just restates what the smash community already knows. Sites kinda weak, I wish there was more! Quatreryukami 14:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Granted but your computer crashes, and I apologize for not looking at the how to play before putting that last one in. Anubiz 18:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Battlefield

Battlefield should be said about in the stages info also it should be mentioned that time of day at the stage changes eveytime you play itMarioman12 10:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

we are not really sure if that is confirmed yet. In a few hours, though, we will.--Superbub 10:54, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Smash Bros. DOJO page about Battlefield. It has been confirmed. OBEY STARMAN 11:17, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I like it's facelift, and that should be included. Anubiz 12:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

"Wii Optical Disc"

Unless anyone can find a source stating that this game will be released on a Wii Optical Disc, this information is speculation and should not be in the article. For all we know, it might be downloadable over Wii Ware, or playable via a hard drive attachment like Final Fantasy XI. Even speculation that is very likely to be true is still speculation if it's not sourced. - Chardish 11:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Why is this even being discussed? The above comment is without a doubt the biggest heap of tripe I have ever read on any talk page. ALL WII GAMES COME ON DISCS. There has yet to be an exception to this rule and until such an exception is announced, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind it's coming on a disc. "Oh, oh, oh, but it might be downloadable! Or it might use a hard drive!" - pardon me for saying this but... that's bull-crap. If it was going to be on something other then a Wii Disc then it would've been stated previously during an announcement. You aren't going to get someone saying; "Hi, we're Nintendo and we're going to put the next Smash Bros on a cartridge" three days before the game launches. Quit talking out of your arse. Apologies for anyone who took offence to this but every word of what I said is true. 195.195.15.250 12:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Mojanboss

Yes, but it is not sourced. So it is against the rules.Anubiz 12:55, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey! Let's take off the "Wii Optical Disk" from Super Mario Galaxy while we're at it. Seriously, the Wii is not capable of downloading these type of games. If it's out for the Wii, it's going to use the Wii Optical Disk. End of arguement. magiciandude (Talk) (review) 13:04, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I was making fun of the rules, however "Wii Optical Disk" is just common sense. Anubiz 13:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

My message wasn't directed to you anyway. ;) magiciandude (Talk) (review) 13:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Apologies for snapping but, come on, what are the odds that Smash Bros will be released on anything other then a Wii Disc? *sigh* 195.195.15.250 13:30, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Mojanboss

Google to one. Anubiz 14:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

ROFL. Duh it's going to be on Wii Optical disk! But, unfortunatly, due to policy, we cant say it until it's confirmed. How will we know they don't change their minds and make it for PS3? KIDDING! DON'T KILL ME PLEASE! Quatreryukami 14:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I support the use of common sense in this instance. There are some things that we just know based on the console. This is one of them. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 14:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia isn't always reliable scources, there are times when "common sense" will suffice. Vilerocks 15:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Agreed, this conversation is like asking "what is the color of the Napoleons white horse?" Anubiz 15:53, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, what colour was Napoleon's white horse? </joke>

Hmmm... uh... erm... dat's a tough one... er... white...? *sarcasm* Vilerocks 16:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

<sarcasm>Really?!? I thought it was black!</sarcasm> 84.66.165.129 18:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Guys this is not talk Napoleons White horse. Anubiz 18:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

If you all do delete stuff I think this section is a good candidate. (Zojo 19:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

What? Anubiz 19:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

This section has absolutely no point to it. It sorta provides a lesson for those who asks stupid, obvious questions but, other than that, it's a waste of space. (Zojo 19:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

The Controller

I think this is worth noting. At Smash Bros Dojo, the icon for the "how to play" page is a Wiimote turned sideways. This doesn't prove anything, but I think it suggests that's how you will control the game. Powerslave (talk-contribs) 12:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Isn't that speculation? -Sukecchi 12:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes it is but, he beat me to the punch. Dos that help? Anubiz 13:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

not only is it speculation, but it's incredibly unlikely speculation. a wii-remote turned sideways would not be able to work with smash bros. i'd assume the image is just there to demonstrate the "control" concept with a retro (NES-style) yet modern (wiimote) look. Djchallis 13:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Or, since the Wii Remote is the Wii's primary controller it's simply there to say; "here's how you'll control it" 195.195.15.250 13:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Mojanboss

The handlebar would be symple. Anubiz 14:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Spelling isn't too hard either. Anyway. I can't imagine playing Smash Bros with the Wii Remote. You've got the D-Pad which would be a nightmare to use (you need the control stick to help the game differentiate between a gently push or a tap, initiating a tip-toe and a dash respectively), then you've got the 1 and 2 buttons whch presumably would be used for A and B (I'm sorry, but that big A Button doesn't come into it considering this is a beat-em-up and it's in an inadequate place) - here's a good question. What buttons do yu use for jump/grab/shield? Grab and shield are essentially the same button but I don't think the B Trigger is a good substitute for the L and R buttons. Or the Z Button. 84.13.125.246 16:39, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Mojanboss

I agree completly, playing a Smash game with a controller like the wiimote would be a nightmare. Vilerocks 16:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Alright but he didn't have to bite off my head! Anubiz 16:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

As long as I can understand what your trying to say, i'm good with your spelling. Vilerocks 16:54, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Um, it's incredibly likely that the wii will make you use the nunchuk WITH the wii remote, so you have that to control motion, and a C and Z button. Most games require the nunchuck. DurinsBane87 16:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Regardless... the game still wouldn't feel right, everyone seems to hae doubts playing brawl with a wiimote, it'll probably be the classic controller, or the gamecube controller. Vilerocks 16:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

"Probably" isn't good enough. We need proof before we put anything in, and we just don't have that either way. This is sounding more and more like a forum. Let's keep it on topic, shall we? :) Joiz A. Shmo 17:01, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Listen. Sakurai said that the Wii-Mote will NOT be used in the main game. Get that through your heads. We are getting the GC Controller. Angry Sun 17:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Good enough for me. Anubiz 17:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Did everybody forget about Sakurai saying he didn't want to alienate those familiar with the pad (GC controller)? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the GC controller will be used. The wiimote+nunchuk probably won't because of the awkwardness of the button placement. Classic controller has all the buttons that a GC controller does. It's not that difficult to figure out people. (and how many of you are going to keep giving Anubiz a hard time?) (Zojo 19:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

I believe the appropriate response for both, might be everyone. Anubiz 19:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Update additions

Do you guys think that a screenshot that shows damage precentage should be inserted into the article? Also, how about replacing a prototype level (Halberd) to a confirmed level (Battlefield)? And this one's a little out there, but should the release date be "Planned for 2007" like the official site said? (Zojo 19:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Yes Anubiz 20:00, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I believe this could be a good topic to take note of and decide on whatever information the daily Dojo site will provide, and the forumish threads above should be archived. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At) 20:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, actually it might not be a good idea to add anything right now (pictures I mean). Each day an update a may provide something that's "awesome" and then everyday there's a picture somebody fighting to put in. (Zojo 20:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Can we have a picture of the first new confirmed girl? Just asking Anubiz 20:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

If she's hot, yes please. As far as music goes it says they will provide music trials or samples (they called it something). That might be worth mentioning in the article. (Zojo 20:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Okay. Anubiz 20:18, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Am I expected to add this stuff that I suggest? I don't (FYI). Let someone else smarter do it. (Zojo 20:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Menu 1 Music

Go to Nintendo's webpage, and it has a remix of the Menu 1 from Super Smash Bros. Melee, along with the majority of people who will be working with music69.136.181.249 20:10, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

That's already on the official site along with all the musicians they got hired. (Zojo 20:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

And this was already mentioned in the article under "Music" anyway. Teamrocketspy621 20:15, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Unneaded. Anubiz 20:34, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

additions

Just because the site has information doesnt mean that it NEEDS to be added. there's no reason to add all the composers and the games they've worked on. It's just too much. DurinsBane87 20:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

You're right. I agree that the musicians don't need to be mentioned. Someone had put it in there and they should have put it under Music. (Zojo 20:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

Good point. Anubiz 20:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Archive

Should this page be archived since it's kinda long and we'll finally be getting a steady flow of new info? (Zojo 20:45, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

I say wait till tomorrow at least. Anubiz 20:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
