I have heard some general plans are in the works to restore Sunset Limited service east of New Orleans, but are currently waiting for train crew training according an Amtrak conductor on the Silver Meteor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 146.201.175.222 (talk • contribs) 01:57, September 20, 2006.

Amtrak is discussing splitting the Eagle/Sunset into two or three parts: a daily Los Angeles - San Antonio - Dallas - Chicago train (perhaps to be called the "Golden State"); a daily San Antonio - Houston - New Orleans train (the "Arcadian"?) and possibly a daily New Orleans - Jacksonville train. Named train?

I believe that this is actually a 'named rail service' or a 'named railway route' rather than a 'named train' given that it would appear that at least two trains are required to operate the service. Is that correct? If so the lead should make it clear that 'Sunset Limited is a rail service operating between xxx and xxxx' etc rather that 'Sunset Limited is a passenger train ...'. Attempt to kill train

According to a mailing I got from NARP today it looks like the House has passed a bill removing all funding for the Sunset Limited. While this DOES NOT mean it's dead (Sorry, feel the need to stress this, as there's always someone who jumps the gun and changes pages to past tense because of an upcoming closure or merger), and while it's just the House at the moment - the Senate certainly hasn't ratified the measure - this seems a notable bit of news both from the point of view of showing the pressure the service is under (long term news, even if the measure comes to nothing or the States kick in funding) and, in the short term, showing the latest developments.

Move service east of NOL into the "former services" section of each station it served?

The train clearly is not going to be extended back to Orlando, so I think it's somewhat misleading that the Sunset East is listed among the other current routes, simply as a "suspended service". I really think it should just be moved into the Former Services section of each infobox, to make it clear that service east of New Orleans is no more. Okay, so I made this change and it’s looking great. My question now is whether I should give any mention of the fact that the Sunset ran all the way to Miami for several years. I definitely want to avoid any sort of information overload, but I also don’t think it makes sense to completely omit this. Should I maybe split the right cell into two parts and have it list the years that the Sunset went to Miami and to Orlando? And should the articles for closed stations such as Phoenix and Tempe list today’s termini or that of when they closed?Cpotisch (talk) 20:27, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

I agree that it should be moved. I've changed the termini for the "West" type of the Sunset Limited in Module:Adjacent stations/Amtrak to "Orlando or Miami". And about the closed stations...I'm not sure, but I'd lean towards the termini when they were closed. This is easily done with the to-left and to-right parameters. I'm all set with the to-left and to-right tags, but don't know about "Adjacent Stations" (looked through that page and still don't quite understand what it is). Any help on that would be much appreciated. I can also just manually change the terminus from Orlando to "Orlando or Miami" and add those stations if you want. From your contributions, it looks like you've been doing it right actually! It's just the new version of {{s-line}}, look at this page for the differences between them. Yes, you could write "Orlando or Miami", or just remove that parameter and replace it with "type=West" instead like I did here. It produces the same result. Also, "Services" in "Former Services" shouldn't be capitalized. But otherwise thanks for tackling this! –Daybeers (talk) 01:02, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

@Daybeers: Glad to hear I've been (mostly) doing it right. Can you please convert the Gulfport station from S-Line to Adjacent Stations so that I can change it to "Orlando or Miami"? And how do I add a “Former services” box to the Decatur station page (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Railway_Depot_(Decatur,_Alabama)), which used to be served by the Floridian? Thanks!
