Content removed edit

Hi @HouseOfChange: I observed that you removed my content in this article, the content was also with references? So are those references also removed?. Why Content removed if it was duplication then you should have not deleted references, kindly restore necessary content and improve it and restore references as well, thanks in advance.JogiAsad  Talk 10:45, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, first of all, I kept all the references but moved them down in the article. Second, thanks for great work on the article, which we are apparently both working to improve as fast as possible. HouseOfChange (talk) 10:49, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Here are the references you had that I moved down in the article.[1][2][3] Two other references in your draft were already in the section about the attack, so I did not add them again. Sorry I did not see your paragraph about the attack before I started drafting a section about it. Because the section was drafted as a standalone, it basically duplicated and expanded the original paragraph. Very glad you have found so many good sources, lots more than I did! I got a good quote from one to add to the article also.HouseOfChange (talk) 10:55, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
HouseOfChange Thanks alot you saved the references, kindly improve this article and make cleanup so it meets Wikipedia standards and neutrality. Indeed I had been working on this article since I created it. and thanks again for this collaborative & courteous response. JogiAsad  Talk 11:03, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have seen an other user created a Draft:Suhai Aziz Talpur for this same article . is that draft article still needful despite of this article which we are improving collaboratively? JogiAsad  Talk 11:06, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Is this a fan page? edit

Greetings, all. The page contains too mnay quotes of the person herself as well as fawning and admiring quotes by the media. Such information carries no encyclopaedic interest. If there was some dispute about the person's abilities or competence as a police officer, perhaps such extensive citation could have some merit.

I removed the (frankly embarassing) verbiage but HouseOfChange restored them all. For the moment, I will neither revert them nor tag the article for resembling a page out of a fan magazine. I suggest we all examine somberly and critically the article's text and discuss what the appropriate content is. Cheers. -The Gnome (talk) 10:37, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think the article needs to use an appropriate tone in discussion its subject, who has recently become a celebrity in Pakistan. On the one hand, adulatory language in the text is inappropriate. I agree with edits by @The Gnome: that improved the article's text. I undid some of the changes to references, specifically his removing all the quotes from all RS. I believe those quotes do a service to our readers.
I also disagree with the decision to remove information about wider reaction to the incident, especially the information that she is the first woman ever nominated for Pakistan's highest police award. See for example Chesley_Sullenberger#Post-flight_accolades_and_publicity; I do not think it is unusual or suspect for someone getting sudden public acclaim to have that mentioned in the bio. HouseOfChange (talk) 11:00, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
What service exactly to the readers do those quotes provide? Here's a sample: "I was already on my way to work so we redirected and rushed to the crime scene. I already had my guards with me, senior officers were on their way. In the meantime we gathered the bomb disposal squad and fire brigade as well." That's Suhai Aziz Talpur speaking about herself in an interview. Are we getting anything new, interesting, or informative from this? We already know that she's a police officer, that officers do no go to ongoing-crime scenes alone, that in a terrorist attack the firemen and the bomb-disposak squad will be there, too, and so on. So, this is just unnecessarypuffery.
The purpose is to provide information of encyclopaedic interest; not glorify or promote the subject. Take care. -The Gnome (talk) 11:15, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think that quote adds color and immediacy. Letting the subject speak in her own voice is not necessarily puffery. As editors, we paraphrase our RS in article text, but lively quotes from sources (or the article's subject) bring in a not-homogenized voice, and can also help readers decide which of our many RS would be worth reading.
I tend to add quotes to articles I create or edit, for example Donna Zakowska or Robert Seyfarth (scientist), mainly because the template has an entry for "quote" and there is often something of color and interest to put in there. HouseOfChange (talk) 11:39, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Every quote like the one given as an example can be said to provide "color and intimacy" but color or intimacy are attributes one typically expects in magazine profiles of persons; not in an encyclopaedia. The manual of style does not demand any kind of effort from editors to have "color and intimacy" in the text. On the contrary, we have a plethora of guidelines in Wikipedia against text that can be construed as puffery, weaselly, adulatory, etc. It's difficult enough to present people's profiles in Wikipedia with the necessary detachment and objectivity; we certainly do not need getting "close and intimate" to the subject.
Paid editors are already (and constantly) trying to amplify the impact of their work here by deploying quotes from interviews, etc. But quotes are supposed to offer some significant, additional information: We are specifically instructed not to overuse quotes (see WP:LONGQUOTE). -The Gnome (talk) 05:31, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
WP:LONGQUOTE is about the use of quotations inside articles, not about the use of quotes in references, a template that specifically makes room for the use of a quote. Quotes in references do not interrupt the flow of the article. Making articles interesting is specifically encouraged by Wikipedia projects such as DYK, GA, and others. I don't know why you put "close and intimate" in quotes. Those are not my words, nor is it my intention. The word "immediacy" has a meaning quite different from the word "intimacy." HouseOfChange (talk) 06:35, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Can we try to be more specific, please? We are not here to offer "color" and "immediacy". We are not supposed to get the reader close and intimate to the person - my words, synonyms for the practice you support. There is no guideline that supports or promotes "color and immmediacy" in Wikipedia's articles. In fact, WP:BLP goes the opposite direction: neutrality and distance are paramount! If you want all those extensive quotes in the references, you'll have to come up with something more concrete than "color and immediacy"; something based on policy, preferably. -The Gnome (talk) 08:16, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I won't re-add the quotes. Thanks for your comments. I believe that WP:TONE supports your POV rather than mine. HouseOfChange (talk) 08:30, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
