To whom it may concern - editors. A respectful request, please, regarding my privacy and my and my family's safety, even. I reference WP:BLPPRIVACY

Suede deBronkart here, a.k.a. Suede. I am an entertainer who goes by my middle name, Suede - single name only. I've asked several times here (and elsewhere) to please help me maintain some degree of privacy by not publishing my birth name. I've had fanatic fans cause me to file restraining orders and have had to hire security because they've tracked my home and my 92 year old mother's home down by finding my birth name. Anywhere I happen to see it published I try to remove it. That's all. No editing war intended. I appreciate your support on this detail. I respectfully make that request, please - do not publish my birth name on the page about my professional life as Suede. Thank you Suedewave (talk) 20:18, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not causing further trouble by publishing the birth name. It was published by SF Gate in 2009, by WaPo in 1994, the book Rock Formations in 2004, Billboard in 1994, and BBC News in Brazil in 2003. The cat is out of the bag, as they say. Binksternet (talk) 22:01, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

4meter4, you pointed to WP:BLPPRIVACY which describes what to do if the birth date is considered private, but the guideline does not say anything about what steps to take if the subject's birth name is considered private—it does not offer a solution at all, let alone for cases such as this with a well-known birth name. Suede's birth name has been widely published since 1994. So WP:BLPPRIVACY does not support your position. Binksternet (talk) 22:22, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

In this case we have the subject objecting to the content citing that their personal safety and the safety of their family is at risk. In my opinion, that’s enough to justify invoking this policy. If the name is put back I will go to WP:ANI. ANI may not agree, but I suspect they will.4meter4 (talk) 22:55, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

That is one solution. Or we could semi-protect it and put a hidden note in to not add her birth name. There are multiple workable solutions.4meter4 (talk) 16:26, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

If someone is famous enough for a Wikipedia article, they are famous enough to have their birth name shown, when supported by multiple major sources as in this case. Pawnkingthree is correct that deletion is the solution if they don't like their birth name shown. Binksternet (talk) 17:23, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

• Comment. Binksternet} has removed the hidden note to prevent editing of the name. In my opinion, this is a bad faith edit that potentially has real world negative and dangerous consequences to the subject. Binksternet, can you please justify why you think this hidden note is somehow not a workable solution? It seems to me safety and privacy concerns trump all other considerations, particularly since the subject's actual name is not typically used in most references on the subject or in promotional materials. There really doesn't seem to be an encyclopedic necessity for including the name, and the responsible thing to do would be to protect the safety of a living person and her family.4meter4 (talk) 21:52, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
