Numbers of Sudanese throughout the world edit

For some reason I could not get the re-use reference tab to work, so I am sorry for the poor way the population is listed with the references in the infobox. Jambo321 (talk) 10:24, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Religion for Sudanese Arabs edit

Can you stop changing the religion section of this article.I already explained earlier to another user that Sudanese Arabs are predominantly Sunni Muslims. And that the percentages for religion represent Sudan as a whole not Sudanese Arabs. 70% of Sudan's population is Arab and 30% is Black African. 97% of this population as a whole adheres to Sunni Islam. If you are confused please see minorityrights.org/Sudan or the wikipedia article on Sudan to learn more. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 15:34, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sources for Sudanese Arab ancestry aren't reliable edit

Your sources for the Sudanese Arab ancestry aren't reliable considering how they come from a travel guide website and book. I've edited back the old version of this article. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 15:39, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Cookiemonster1618 & Haskko, I'm (further) responding here as my user talk page really isn't the place for it (for one thing, anyone else in a position to help here is unlikely to see it there, but also I simply don't want this hashed out there). I assume the issue is with the Sudan (Republic of Sudan) Country Study Guide which is indeed available online: Sudan (Republic of Sudan) Country Study Guide Volume 1 Strategic Information and Developments, p. 33, at Google Books. Here's the relevant quote from that book: "Sudanese Arabs of Northern and Eastern parts descend primarily from migrants from the Arabian Peninsula and intermarriages with the pre-existing indigenous populations of Sudan, especially the Nubian people…." There's no problem using an offline book as a reference, per se, certainly not because it isn't available via the internet (though in this case, it is). Having said all of that, this book appears to be a tertiary source, at best (see WP:TERTIARY); I really don't know anything about the publisher (International Business Publications, or IBP) but two things that don't bode well are (1) the information is apparently cobbled together from other, unspecified sources (which would have been much more useful to us), and (2) the publisher's website, ibpus.com, is no longer active (the domain is for sale). To me, the book seems "borderline" valid, but longer-term I wonder if IBP ought to be reported to WP:RSN (perhaps someday when I have more time than I do today).
I wondered if perhaps the content of the book might have been cribbed from a Library of Congress Country Study, or the CIA World Factbook (since both are in the public domain), but this isn't the case. But I wonder if the LoC Country Study (https://tile.loc.gov/storage-services/master/frd/frdcstdy/su/sudancountrystud00berry/sudancountrystud00berry.pdf) might be a better source than the IBP book; it makes a similar (if not the same) claim on pp. 79-80, though (importantly) it does not specify "Sudanese Arabs" (rather, it's in a section about "Arabs and Nubians") and extrapolating that info to Sudanese Arabs might, I believe, run afoul of WP:NOR. (On the other hand, the work is already about Sudan, so perhaps they don't specify that the Arabs in Sudan are Sudanese?) The quote I pulled from that book does not seem to appear anywhere else that I'd consider a more reliable source than the IBP book.
Anyway, I don't guess any of this puts us much closer to resolving the dispute, but it's what I've been able to find out in the past hour (and it's also not on my talk page). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:44, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can you take us to the 'request a resolution' section because I clicked on it and it says I can't access it because its in the Java script. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 19:20, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Where do you see "request a resolution?" I don't see it on this page nor on the article page. Can you enable JavaScript in your browser (or use a different browser/device where it's enabled)? -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:19, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Click on this link and than you should see 'request a resolution' button when i click on thqt button it says i cant access that section as it requires java script so i am asking if you can take us there without me having to enable Java script.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 21:54, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
What happened when you tried a different browser (or device)? Or does JavaScript itself present a problem? If so, I'm not sure why you're averse to running JavaScript (I believe you could turn it on for only that one page), nor why it is better for me (or someone else) to run JavaScript instead of you. I'm not sure there's a way around the JavaScript. But it also says not to pursue that avenue until there's been an extensive talk page discussion, which I don't believe has occurred. There's your comment, and then mine (& then this discussion about DRN); I would not call that "extensive" and I'm fairly certain the DRN participants wouldn't, either. Perhaps someone else will chime in and/or another source will turn up in the meantime. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:02, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh ok. Oh no im sorry if you misunderstood but I wasn't asking you to turn on Java script for me i was just asking if you can take me to that page without the Java script but like you said since there hasn't been a discussion to resolve this dispute there's no reason going there.
