Autobiography
editThe section where it is claimed that McCall was outspoken about City’s failure to strengthen the side to secure promotion in 1987-88 says 'citation needed'. The only source I am aware of is the book The Real McCall, penned by McCall with the aid of a ghost writer. jimbo 07:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
The Real McCall - details from Amazon.
Publisher: Mainstream Publishing (25 Jun 1998) Language English ISBN-10: 1840180781 ISBN-13: 978-1840180787 by Alan Nixon (Author), Stuart McCall (Author)

"When promotion was missed by one point on the last day of the season, he left the club" - technically, this is incorrect. McCall played two further games (and scored one further goal) for the club in the play-offs against Middlesbrough. Having lost 3-2 on aggregate, Bradford stayed in Division Two and McCall then left for Everton. jimbo 10:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
GA Review
editI've looked this article over, and I'm putting it on hold. I think, unfortunately, it needs quite a lot of work for it to qualify as a Good Article. Because my review is rather long, check here for the review. Noble Story (talk) 02:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've addressed a lot of those points. I'll add some more comments on your Sandbox. Ah, just seen the Sandbox has grown. I'll get on with the rest of them!! Peanut4 (talk) 02:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
I've added a second review to the above page. Noble Story (talk) 05:45, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
This article is almost, almost there. Check my sandbox for the third and probably final review. Noble Story (talk) 00:30, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Comments
editInternational
This section is a little confusing, because it appears to say that he made his Scotland debut twice. I presume the game against England in March 1988 was an under-21 international. He made his full debut in the Argentina game (Stewart McKimmie!). Anyway, the first bit needs to be clarified to avoid confusion. It might also be worth noting that Craig Levein and Robert Fleck also made their debuts in that game, and that it was (by our pathetically low standards) a famous win, because it was the first time that Scotland had beaten the current World Cup holders since 1967. I'm certain that we haven't done that since.
Regarding the 1990 World Cup, I'm sure that being a first team regular at Everton had a bit more to do with his selection than playing in a few friendlies. Also, my memory is that we could have squeezed through to the second round even with just the two points from beating Sweden if results in other groups hadn't gone against us. Italy 90 was one of the World Cups that was structured so that the four best third place teams out of the six groups got into the last 16. Scotland ended up being one of the other two third place teams. There was a game between Uruguay and South Korea that we neeeded to finish in a draw or Korean win, but Uruguay won 1-0 with a very late goal. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

It might be a Jambo site, but it is an excellent resource for Hearts and Scotland stats. I think the webmaster for that site (Davy Allan) has an account on wikipedia. It might be worthwhile asking him for permission to use the photograph of McCall playing for Rangers. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:53, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- McCall would have been 25 according to this page when he made his under 21 debut?Sologoal (talk) 14:38, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
- Over-age player(s) were allowed in under-21 teams up until about 1990. I think that was removed because the Euro under-21 tournament became a qualifier for the Olympics. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 15:09, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
