External links modified edit

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on String metric. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

Variational distance edit

There is a red wikilink to Variational distance in the version from 22 February 2021:

Special:PermanentLink/1008269750#List of string metrics

The name can be found as an alternative to Total variation distance of probability measures.

That, however, is much more general, and can be considered a 'string metric' for finite probability spaces only, where the probability distribution can be described as a finite sequence (a string) of probabilities of every specific event.

So, here my question comes: am I right in identifying 'Variational distance' with 'Total variation distance of probability measures'? If so, I'm going to create an appropriate redirect.

Anyway, due to the generality of the target notion the link seems not appropriate here (unless an explanation is added to it). Should it be kept here?
