Note that, although sited in the Old Town part of Stratford, the E&WJR (later S&MJR, LM&SR) station never bore the name "Old Town". It was officially "Stratford-upon-Avon" (the name of the town's other, GWR, station was "Stratford-on-Avon" -- which became "Stratford-upon-Avon" after the closure to passengers of the ex-LM&SR station in 1952). -- Picapica (talk) 15:37, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's referred to as "Old Town" in R.C. Riley and Bill Simpson's work on the SMJR, which mentions that it became known as such in 1951 (p. 111). This is backed up by Clinker (1988) who gives the date of renaming as 7 April 1952 (p. 174, note 3315). Lamberhurst (talk) 18:29, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
