Kern River Gold Rush . .... Several problems with the first sentence of this section, "In 1853, D. B. James and Brigham James made the first discovery of gold at the Kern River in the huge but until then nearly unsettled Mariposa County".

First: "D. B. James" and "Brigham James" are the same person (David Bice James). "Brigham" was his nickname. http://www.lawesterners.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/068-MARCH-1964.pdf

Second: I don't think James is normally given credit for first discovering gold along the Kern River, anymore. Though a local historian, Joseph Doctor, gives James credit for starting the gold 'rush'; e.g. He drummed-up excitement about the discovery of gold along the Kern via multiple newspapers in Northern California.

Third: This area was no longer part of Mariposa County, in 1853. I'm fairly certain the area became part of Tulare County in 1852.
