Is “hit the wall” proper encyclopedic language? 73.201.40.177 (talk) 18:39, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

It must be lofty, I don't know what it means. —Tamfang (talk) 21:47, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to copy the entirety of the passage here, it's pretty egregious in its calling for a rewrite:
In 1919 however, The Washington Post probably hit the wall with its reporting of a black male who raped a white woman, taking the lead in causing what would be known as the 1919 Washington Race Riots, where African Americans were targeted themselves, their homes and businesses. African Americans would fight back and when it was all over there were several White and Black deaths.
"Probably hit the wall" adds to the overall weasel-iness of the sentence, and the last sentence strikes me as written by a 5th grader in terms of style. "Several...deaths" looks lazy, the numbers or even estimates probably could have been cited with a tad more research. 2600:4040:A6C7:C900:2812:C6FF:DC37:3F32 (talk) 03:03, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
sorry, that was my comment I added while not logged on with my phone just now. Oops. Comment to me here if needed. Deliusfan (talk) 03:05, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I also question the need for this statement, here, as it's about events surrounding the Washington Post well after Hutchins' death. It's germane to the the Washington Post article about its history, it has little to nothing to do with Hutchins.
What IS missing from this article are actual examples of Hutchins' racist views. We are simply informed he had them in the opening paragraph of the article but I saw no elaboration on these points. Deliusfan (talk) 03:24, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
