Moving to a more general name edit

From the DRV discussion linked above, I think the article should be moved to a more general name like "Folksonomy in museums" or maybe "Tagging museums", and then include the other examples of similar museums. I'm going to disagree about folksonomy in museums for the same reason I did at the DRV, I don't think it's one that every day readers would use. Since this is the name of the project in which a number of large, well-known museums are participating, why can't it stay at the project name until a common, public-use name develops. None of the non-scholarly articles seem to indentify the practice and I think naming it is perilously close to OR, as well as unnecessary. _{TravellingCari}^{the Busy Bee} 16:28, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some of that is covered in "See Also" but it depends on what other notable projects there are that deserve a wikipedia article. If it's a project at one museum, it could be covered in that museum's page. What others do you know of? From the NYT source[1]: "The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution and the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia, already have prototype tagging applications on their Web sites, and nearly a dozen other museums plan similar projects. (...) The Metropolitan Museum of Art ran a test in fall 2005 in which volunteers supplied keywords for 30 images of paintings, sculpture and other artwork (...) Since August 2006, the Smithsonian Photography Initiative has asked visitors to its Web site, photography.si.edu, to “Enter the Frame” and label 2,000 images culled from various archives. (...) Sebastian Chan, manager of Web services for the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, which, since its site was redesigned last June, has encouraged tagging (powerhousemuseum.com).".
