Myths/Misunderstandings (?) around Shore's 1976 show at the MOMA edit
It is often repeated that Shore was only the second living photographer to have a solo show at the MOMA (after Steiglitz) with various dates. This does not appear to be true, the official list of exhibitions [1] shows more than a dozen solo shows of photography prior, several of which are by photographers alive in 2020. Bruce Davidson, for instance, had a shows in 1966 and 1970, and is alive now.
I am simply going to delete the relevant sentence from the article. If true in some sense, it needs to be clarified radically. Amolitor99 (talk) 21:52, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Further research suggests that the "second living.. solo show" may be true about Shore's 1971 show at the Met, and there may simply be confusion. The sources for "second living .. solo show" at the MOMA are both behind paywalls as of now, so I cannot check to determine if the cited sources (WSJ and NYT) are in fact in disagreement with the MOMA list, or whether the sources say "Met" and were misread for this article as "MOMA" (which mistake I find... easy to make) Amolitor99 (talk) 22:05, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Amolitor99: From The NYT article: "In 1971 the Metropolitan Museum of Art gave Mr. Shore its second-ever exhibition by a living photographer. (Alfred Stieglitz had the first.) He was 23 when it opened." -Lopifalko (talk) 04:17, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
