Problems edit

I've wikified part of this article. While doing so, I found some errors. For instance, our article said Mr Pastis "was a lawyer, practicing insurance law" but in fact he "was a litigation attorney in San Francisco from 1993 to 2002"[1] who spent a lot of time "defending insurance firms against claims from the 1994 Northridge earthquake."[2] The list of his earlier strips here does not mention "Rat", but includes one (The Billbo Chronicles) our article does not mention. And so on.

I've put a {{unreferencedsect}} tag on the "Pearls Before Swine" section of the article. Unless someone comes up with good sources for those statements, we should rewrite it from scratch.

(UTC) 11-23-09 none of Rat's slanderous accusations are on here as they were in today's strip. lol

Picture deletion edit

Why is the picture up for speedy deletion? If it's a picture of Mr. Pastis, and it's copyright is ok, why get rid of it? No reason is given. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.131.243.172 (talk) 23:19, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. If it really was good then put it back up, if you know where it is. C. Phoebus —Preceding unsigned comment added by Captain Phoebus (talkcontribs) 14:47, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Keep a wary eye on this one edit

Oh my. Pastis has Rat editing his bio on Wikipedia in the strip for Monday, November 23, 2009 (and possibly later in the week) so extra attention should be focused here to prevent motivated fans from making Rat's pronouncements come true. - Dravecky (talk) 06:32, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think a cartonist with a good sense of humor like Pastis would enjoy having his cartoons make it into the real world (that is if cyber is more real than print). If someone can do it without getting the changes immediately revoked, I think "Rat's" edits should be added for at least the week. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkjk14 (talkcontribs) 04:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Info on high school and tattoos should be added edit

At San Marino High School, Pastis was the only senior to not get a date for his high-school prom, and instead sat at home and cried while watching St. Elmo's Fire. He also has the lyrics to "Like A Virgin" tattooed on his uvula. This is important info and should be in the article. -- Rat (talk) 13:53, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually the lyrics are on his thigh. 12.162.122.6 (talk) 15:21, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
In the strip, yes. But someone thought "uvula" was correct funnier. -- Zsero (talk) 15:25, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:PearlsCrocs.gif Nominated for speedy Deletion edit

An image used in this article, File:PearlsCrocs.gif, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 16 November 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

Pearls Before Swine edit

As the comic already has its own article, is there really a need for the rather large section on it in this article? Seems like any information there could just be merged into the comic's article and replaced here with a link. Tiggum (talk) 04:33, 26 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Awards edit

Under the awards section of the article I'd like to suggest an edit to include the 2015 Ruben awards. According to theNational Cartoonist Society's page for the 2015 Rueben Awards, Pastis won for Newspaper Comic Strip. -anonymous 6/8/2015 3:56 AM EST — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.189.198.209 (talk) 07:57, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Timmy Failure Predecessors edit

Mike Kunkel's 2002 comic Herobear and the Kid is somewhat along the same lines (Boy accompanied by an imaginary living polar bear). Yet, both borrow extensively from Bill Waterson's Calvin and Hobbes 2003:CA:3F0C:730D:4451:B7A8:515A:4FC2 (talk) 23:04, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
