Copyright problem removed edit

One or more portions of this article duplicated other source(s). The material was copied from: http://stefanopalatchi.com/bio.pdf. Infringing material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Voceditenore (talk) 07:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Note, apart from the copyright violation, the pasted in "biography" was blatantly promotional and has no place in an encyclopedia article. Voceditenore (talk) 07:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • Overkill: Folks, rather than dump on such contributions, why not improve them? I'm about to add a whole bunch of citations to any "claims" and add information in general based on reputable resources – you know, like a proper Wikipedian? Please, refrain from grumpiness! If you find an "offender," don't take offense: please enlighten. Meantime, lighten up! Lastly, did any of the complainers take a moment, find an audio or video recording, and actually hear this guy's voice? If so, I doubt you would have dumped on the page: you would have done it justice by simply improving it: he is AMAZING! --Aboudaqn (talk) 20:57, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
      • Aboudaqn, how about a little less "grumpiness" and sarcasm from you? I had to remove the copyright violations. We are legally required to do so and place a notice on the talk page to that effect. If you actually look at the history, I didn't simply gut the article, I rewrote it in idiomatic English and went to the trouble of finding and adding references [1]. Unreferenced articles about living people are deleted within 7 days if references aren't added. Incidentally, the article was created by a publicity agent who was paid to do so, not a "fan". I was fully aware that this was a notable singer, as you can see here which is why I took the trouble to fix it. Voceditenore (talk) 13:56, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
        • Voceditenore: I have expanded the article greatly and added numerous citations as promised. Hopefully it will pass muster now, though, like most entries, it could always use more tender care. And, as I mentioned earlier, what an amazing person – and voice – he turns out to be!--Aboudaqn (talk) 15:57, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
          • Aboudaqn, the article had already "passed muster" 6 years ago, when I rewrote the promotional material pasted in by his publicity agent and placed the notice here about removing the copyright violation. It was a short but adequate, accurate, and neutrally written article with sufficient references to keep it from deletion. I'm sure your expansion and additional references have the potential to improve it even further. Voceditenore (talk) 16:39, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Infobox edit

What's the issue with adding an InfoBox with this warning: "!-- please do not add an infobox, per Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera#Infoboxes-- "? Please suggest something better instead – like the "artist" InfoBox! (Does someone have it "in" for this Stefano Palatchi guy?) I'm going to go ahead and add that now – it seems absurd that "opera singers" do not deserve a handy InfoBox, but at least there is reasonable remedy. Feel free to write me back and explain, in which case I will pull out the InfoBox based on credible explanation. --Aboudaqn (talk) 20:59, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Aboudaqn. That hidden note was left over from years ago. At the time Infobox Musical artist, which was skewed to pop musicians was particularly disliked by some members. I've switched the box you added from Infobox artist (which is for visual artists only) to infobox person and simplified it somewhat. However, I think you're going to have some trouble with that image. A copyright album cover cannot be used simply to illustrate a living person. It can only be used under fair use in an article about the album itself. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 13:43, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your concern; I have asked one of Palatchi's artistic managers to submit an official photo they own to Wikipedia.--Aboudaqn (talk) 15:54, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Well, good luck with that. You have ensure that the procedures outlined at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials and Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission are followed to the letter, including his agent showing written proof that the photographer has either completely passed his rights to the agency or that the photographer is willing to release the image under a CC-By-SA license which allows the image to be freely used and altered by anyone, even for commercial gain. This is what happened the last time his agent uploaded an image of him. Voceditenore (talk) 16:53, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
