Statue of Thaddeus Kościuszko (Washington, D.C.)Statue of Tadeusz Kościuszko (Washington, D.C.)WP:VAMOS has been updated and now says: "For portrait sculptures of individuals in public places the forms "Statue of Fred Foo" "Equestrian statue of Fred Foo" or "Bust of Fred Foo" is recommended, unless a form such as "Fred Foo Memorial" or "Monument to Fred Foo" is the WP:COMMONNAME. If further disambiguation is needed, because there is more than one sculpture of the same person with an article, then disambiguation by location rather than the sculptor is usually better." Tadeusz Kościuszko Monument (Washington, D.C.) is also an option, per this source and Category:Monuments and memorials to Tadeusz Kościuszko, but I'd prefer to see evidence this is the most commonly used name. --Another Believer (Talk) 00:25, 23 March 2020 (UTC) Relisting. BD2412 T 18:37, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Move to Statue of Thaddeus Kościuszko (Washington, D.C.). In an American context, especially the 1910 American context when this statue was made, he's known by his more Anglicized name that he served under (akin to how nobility who reigned in different countries might be known by different names in different contexts). Picture even shows that the accent is not included in statue inscription. (EDIT: See below, actually it does have it.) So regardless of the title of Kosciuszko's main article, for the article on this specific statue, stick with whatever it uses in its inscriptions - the Anglicized "Thaddeus." SnowFire (talk) 20:58, 23 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
There are inscriptions reading KOŚCIUSZKO and GENERAL THADDEUS KOŚCIUSZKO/ 1768–1817/ SON OF POLAND, in both cases with the diacritic mark. It's very small, but it is there. Ham II (talk) 19:27, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
You're right, I couldn't make out the tiny accent before; thanks, it's more clear in the full-size versions. Adjusted proposal, then. SnowFire (talk) 20:31, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Post-closure discussion edit

The parent article for the individual depicted is Tadeusz Kościuszko. @Necrothesp and Ham II: Were your votes in support of the name used in the original nom or the name suggested by User:SnowFire? @BD2412: Bringing this to your attention as well. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:48, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Roman Spinner: Can you clarify your preferred title as well? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:49, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Resulting redirects edit

Brigadier General Thaddeus Kosciuszko should redirect to the article on the general, not his statue as at present IMO. Andrewa (talk) 22:32, 11 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

To editor Andrewa: just fyi, this has been done. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 09:53, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I didn't feel I should do it unilaterally without giving opportunity for comment. But in that nobody spoke against it I'd accept that as consensus. Andrewa (talk) 14:29, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
