Requested move 5 July 2019
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
Moved as proposed. Whether the parent article should be renamed is a separate discussion requiring its own evidence. bd2412 T 02:52, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
General John A. Rawlins statue → Statue of John Aaron Rawlins – Proposed title seems to be more consistent with other articles about statues of people ("Statue of XXX", rather than "XXX statue", and uses the title of the parent article (John Aaron Rawlins). --Another Believer (Talk) 22:29, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

- @Another Believer: I concur with your proposed title. Corker1 (talk) 23:26, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
- What happened to "general"? --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 15:37, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
- SelfieCity, The parent article is not called General John Aaron Rawlins. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:46, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
- True, but in the statue he is shown as a general. I'd support something like "Statue of General John A. Rawlins" with redirects where needed. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 17:47, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
- SelfieCity, Ok, but there are many statues of generals without "general" in the title... ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:34, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
- Could you provide a couple examples? In cases like Robert E. Lee, for example it's common knowledge about his military career, so "general" is unnecessary. However, in this man's case here, it's different. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 18:35, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

I have no opinion either way, but if it's moved I would think keeping "General" would make more sense (to me, at least). APK whisper in my ear 01:06, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nomination and would also support Statue of John A. Rawlins. As of this writing, almost all entries under such categories as Category:Statues in Washington, D.C. depict statue subjects in a "name first" fashion even though, it would seem, statues should be indeed indicated as "Statue of..." Although the statue in question depicts Rawlins as a general, he also served as the nation's highest civilian military official, the Secretary of War, and the statue inscription is simply "RAWLINS", thus suggesting that, in this case, the prefix "General" is not essential.
- As for the main title header, since Rawlins was apparently best known as "John A.", rather than as "John Aaron", per the title of his 1916 biography, The Life of John A. Rawlins: Lawyer, Assistant Adjutant-General, Chief of Staff, Major General of Volunteers, and Secretary of War, by James Harrison Wilson, a possible proposal to rename the parent article, John Aaron Rawlins, to John A. Rawlins, may be in order. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 17:11, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
- Roman Spinner, I'm not opposed, but I think the title of the statue article should reflect the title of the parent article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:20, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support - have no problem with this. MaskedSinger (talk) 15:05, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Much better and follows the biographical article title, although I take the point that that article should probably be renamed. So Statue of John A. Rawlins would also be fine. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:47, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
