Templates edit

I removed some of the maintenance templates; the globalize tag doesn't really apply since it appears to be a term used only in North America right now. The sections will hopefully come with expansion to the article, and the tone was related to globalization issues. Thanks for the feedback! Jminthorne (talk) 18:19, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Examples edit

"in pursuit of a political or ideological goal" we need to support the examples with cites to show that they are "in pursuit of a political or ideological goal", or cites to show who has called them statistexts. Rich Farmbrough, 09:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC).Reply

I'm astonished that this short article attracted attention so quickly! I'm traveling at the moment and don't have the two cited articles at my fingertips. However, both cited authors referred to "visible minorities", in the Canadian context, as their key example. Some of the other examples are from my own head, but they would, in my judgement, be clear-cut examples of the concept. (For example, try telling a Turk that s/he is a "West Asian"! Yet such intellectual acrobatics were necessary to extend the protection of the Canadian Employment Equity Act to Turkish-Canadians.)
If any Wiki participants believe any of the examples are not statistexts, I would be eager to discuss the matter. I'd argue that this is akin to a Wiki participant writing about a particular architectural style, and posting a photo of a building in the participant's town that exemplifies that style. In response to concerns raised on 9 May 2010 by User:Rich Farmbrough, I've made some edits to ensure that everything is well-cited, especially examples of statistexts. Every example I give of a statistext is taken from a published research study, and the footnotes show which one. Canadian2006 (talk) 20:58, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
