Why merge? edit

I don't really get why this article should be merged to the Ellie Goulding article as the current article version suggests [1]. There are tons of articles about music singles here in the English Wikipedia and this single surely isn't less notable than most of those other (as this has been a top 10 single in two countries). The article isn't either that weak (in my opinion it is OK) that that would be a reason for merge. ,,n (talk) 12:40, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

And same with the article Under the Sheets which has also been tagged with a merge template. It is an OK article about the debut single of a notable artist, and the single has also had OK chart success (top 10 at least in Denmark and Belgium). Has there been some sort of policy change concerning articles about music singles or what is the reason for targeting these particular articles? ,,n (talk) 12:50, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • The discussion (which is linked in the merge template) is at Talk:Ellie_Goulding#Singles. There hasn't been a policy change; they violate an existing policy, WP:NSONGS.- Simon Dodd { U·T·C·WP:LAW } 17:38, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • 1. That's a guideline, not a policy. 2. There are sources about this single. So a reasonable reading of NSONGS would allow a separate article on this single. Fences&Windows 19:10, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
      • Let's try to avoid complicating things by bifurcating the debate between Talk:Ellie_Goulding#Singles and other talk pages. I apologize for my part in that (i.e. answering the commenter's question instead of simply referring to the existing debate).- Simon Dodd { U·T·C·WP:LAW } 19:15, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • No need for a merge. Song charted and article is more than a stub. There are sufficient sources to satisfy WP:GNG so a separate article is justified. Nouse4aname (talk) 16:34, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
