Talk:Stanlow Abbey

Founder edit

I have changed the name of the founder from de Lacey to FitzRichard because I understand that the de Lacy surname was not assumed until the time of Roger, the 7th baron. Peter I. Vardy 16:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Title edit

Stanlaw is indeed an alternative title (Pastscape) but that does not mean that it should be changed throughout, especially without discussion. The references, in particular Historic England, should not be changed to something that is wrong. While I accept that the spelling is an alternative, the common usage, which WP prefers, is Stanlow. This is the spelling used by J. Patrick Greene, the renowned archaeologist who was responsible for the excavation of the local Norton Priory, and I prefer his usage. No argument or citation has been given to support the change, which is why I have reverted it. And Stanlow is the current spelling on the OS map.--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 08:23, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
