Not too sure about "The bilge keel was an early 20th century predecessor although not as effective" Bilge keels have been around a long time and they operate as passive roll dampers, operating at all speeds. They are pretty effective at zero and low speeds whereas active fin stabilisers come into their own at speed. Subsea (talk) 18:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I sailed on RMS Sylvania in 1957; her stabilizers (regarded as innovative on a liner at the time) imparted a curious, rather sick-making twist to her roll, so not very effective from a passenger's point of view. History gap edit

Orphaned references in Stabilizer (ship) edit
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Stabilizer (ship)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
