Lymm Church edit

The church is possibly more commonly known as Lymm Church, being the main church in the village, even though this isn't its official title. Divy (talk) 18:38, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Organ edit

Great work on this article, however a note is needed concerning the organ: it was replaced in March 2005 with an electronic organ manufactured to by Hugh Banton of The Organ Workshop here in Lymm. Geoff Riley (talk) 08:27, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I should like to add this info but need a reference. I could not find anything on the church website or on a Google search. Is there any published material about it (a local newspaper would do)? Peter I. Vardy (talk) 11:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm... I cannot think of any places off hand where it is published, but I took photos of the removal of the old console and installation of new; and the place where the old pipes and bellows used to be is now the parish office, so the physical evidence of the removal of the old organ is irrefutable. I could take a photo of Hughs makers mark on the console if that would be sufficient.
My main concern is anyone looking at this page actually came to St Marys specifically to see the old organ would be disappointed: not that I'm aware of anyone making a specific pilgrimage to see our old organ... it was nice enough, and Sixsmiths certainly prolonged its life with their many bouts of bellow patchings, but it was not a particularly remarkable organ, and that is why we were allowed to replace it. Is published documentary evidence really so necessary in the light of physical evidence? I'm not sure.-Geoff Riley (talk) 13:49, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid that anything in Wikipedia which is not referenced (to a reliable published source) is at risk of deletion. I've added a footnote to the reference and we will see if we can get away with that. It's a pity that the church website does not include the information and that Hugh Banton does not include it on his own website (either of those would have been OK). Peter I. The church website is under review over what it should contain: the chap who currently looks after it has been struggling for some time because he gets very little guidance over content and such like. I checked on the WayBack Machine to see if there was any reference to the organ going in in 2005, but although the organ is mentioned, it does not detail the actual replacement. There were extensive articles in the parish magazine about it at the time, but they are not actually archived anywhere.
Ah, trying a different tack, the fact that Professor Ian Tracey played the inaugural performance on the new organ is mentioned in G8 and Organ recital although it doesn't specify that it's the new organ, £619 for organ fund says that the recital 'on the new organ' raised £619.
...and finally I found By The Rev Stephen Kingsnorth, an article in the Knutsford Guardian from 28 April 2005 giving brief details of the organ. I think that should do nicely! :) -Geoff Riley (talk) 15:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
