name change

as far as I can tell, SLSU changed itself to AC STL. I think the ownership group took the name of the men's team. I'm sad to see them change their crest, but exciting to see the ownership group bringing in so much history.

No, that's not true. St Louis Soccer United is the name of the parent company which owns several teams, one of which is AC St. Louis. One of the others is the women's team, St. Louis Athletica. SLSU still exists. --JonBroxton (talk) 08:35, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I find this very confusing. When you go to stlouissoccerunited.com, the page opens saying the old SLSU logo (implying St. Louis Soccer United in general) is now the new ACSTL logo. To me this is trying to say SLSU is now AC St Louis. On their new website, it states "Athletic Club of St. Louis was founded with the principal goal of bringing professional soccer to the St. Louis, Missouri region. Athletic Club of St. Louis also acts as a professional soccer investment and development group dedicated to growing the sport of soccer at all levels throughout the St. Louis community. The first professional franchise founded by Athletic Club of St. Louis is Saint Louis Athletica of Women’s Professional Soccer, WPS." This use to be SLSU's old standard intro statement except "Athletic Club of St. Louis" was of course replaced with SLSU. To say Athletica was founded by Athletic Club of St. Louis comes across as a new direction and a total name change to me. To further distinguish between names of the teams and parent club, look at website's top menu bar: "AC St. Louis" takes you to info pertaining to the men's team, "Athletica" to the women's team, and "Athletic Club" to info about the parent club in general. Now I know some parts of the text still have the SLSU name but a lot of the site is exactly the same from when the domain name was still stlouissoccerunited.com and not ac-stlouis.com.

Now if we did end up agreeing the SLSU name is no more, I wouldn't propose a name change. I'd propose merging this page with A.C. St. Louis and creating a new major section that is strictly about club structure, ownership, and endeavors outside the men's team. --Blackbox77 (talk) 03:31, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

It seems to me as well that SLSU IS AC St. Louis now. I'm in favor of the merger and incorporation of a new major section Dylant2011 (talk) 23:48, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Merge to A.C. St. Louis

With the new website up, I think it is safe to say "St. Louis Soccer United" is dead. Almost all references to the old name have been removed and in its place is the fully spelled out "Athletic Club of St. Louis". Here is a quote taken from the A.C. St. Louis' history section: [1]

In June of 2009, the use of The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park was conveyed to the company now known as the Athletic Club of St. Louis by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Now, with a facility to call its own, the Athletic Club of St. Louis shifted its base of operations to The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park, and Saint Louis Athletica became the first professional team to call the venue home.

In November of 2009 the Athletic Club of St. Louis ushered in a new era of men’s professional soccer in St. Louis by announcing it would field a new team, AC St. Louis, in the USSF Division 2 Professional League.

A clear distinction has been made — Athletic Club of St. Louis is the name of the parent club and company, and AC St. Louis and St Louis Athletica are the names of the men's and women's teams the club fields. I propose merging the information of this article with AC St. Louis and incorporating it into the history section.
