Internationals or not? edit

ESPNcricinfo is not showing this series as a T20I series anymore. Is it a mistake on ESPNcricinfo's part, or did something really happen? Mashfi23 (talk) 06:37, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

The ICC has them listed as T20I matches. Guess we'll find out in a hour or two! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:05, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@A Simple Human: - for info, as of typing this, Cricinfo does NOT have this as a T20I match, just a T20 match. @Bs1jac: - are you able to help/confirm via your contact at CI? Thanks! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:38, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Lugnuts, Bs1jac, and Mashfi23: Interesting. Oman and other scoring sites are still referring to this series as T20Is. Human (talk) 10:41, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that what struck me as odd - literally everywhere else has it as a T20I! I can't see a reason why it wouldn't be one, unless they are using more than eleven players per side in each innings, like those Mickey-Mouse two-day warm-up matches that Test sides play... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:43, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have asked CI what is going on! Bs1jac (talk) 10:45, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:46, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If two ICC members play a T20 match between them, it automatically becomes a T20I (if I'm not wrong). So by theory, this cannot be just a T20, it has to be a T20I/ Mashfi23 (talk) 10:59, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mashfi23: A game is only a T20I if both boards wish for it to be so. There are cases where teams choose to field very experimental line-ups in a series and do not request T20I status for those games. It can also be due to a venue not having ICC accreditation, more than XI players per side or other playing conditions in use other than ICC regulations. Sometimes teams field players who are do not yet meet ICC eligibility criteria. Bs1jac (talk) 15:44, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If more than eleven players are playing, then shouldn't have any official status. Its not always T20Is (Hungary and Estonia from before). Human (talk) 11:05, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
ESPNcricinfo are already showing it as a T20 match, so there shouldn't be more than 11 players playing. And if it's a T20, it should be a T20I too. Mashfi23 (talk) 11:10, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

They are officially not T20Is anymore. ICC removed them from the calender. Human (talk) 14:58, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@A Simple Human: Actually the ICC haven't removed it from their calendar, it has moved to the results view. But Cricinfo say its something about ICC rules for games between qualified teams before tournament (see below) which seems weird. Bs1jac (talk) 15:48, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I notice in one of the references on this page, it does say 'T20 warm up' in the table of fixtures. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean anything either way, but to me does read as if they were not supposed to be T20Is. Not sure why these wouldn't be because it was definitely 11 vs 11 and an accredited venue. Bs1jac (talk) 15:35, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Someone from Cricinfo just got back to me. "As per ICC rules the team playing qualifying team can't play before International matches, Oman v Sri Lanka that's we changed to normal t20 game". Not sure what that means, surely teams can play T20Is before a tournament? And wouldn't that also apply to the games between Scotland, PNG and Namibia this week too? Bs1jac (talk) 15:40, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

ESPNcricinfo has published their match report, and they're mentioning the match as a T20I there. Mashfi23 (talk) 16:02, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Bs1jac: ICC isnt showing the second match in the calendar anymore. Human (talk) 16:05, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@A Simple Human: Yes it is here (on the 9th). Bs1jac (talk) 16:09, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for chasing this up, Bs1jac. Cricinfo's own match report states "In the first of two T20Is the sides will play ahead of the T20 World Cup"! FWIW, the scorecard at Cricket Archive DOES list it as a T20I match, with Ayaan Khan making his T20I debut along with Kashyap Prajapati. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:21, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

BBC also labels it a T20I, not that they are the best for this. I watched some of the live feed which did say 't20' but nothing definitive. Interesting to see what happens tomorrow and over the weekend in UAE with the games between PNG, Sco and Nam. Bs1jac (talk) 21:00, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cricinfo lists it as the "Sri Lanka v Oman unofficial T20I Series" Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 04:42, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
And this match has appeared today! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:06, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

My more senior CI contact has said "Both the boards agreed to play the games as normal T20s – have confirmed with OMAN and SLC. Our report was a typo which is fixed now." So that is that! Bs1jac (talk) 07:31, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for finding out more about this. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:52, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
So is it a T20I series or not? Ankurc.17 (talk) 08:25, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, just Twenty20 matches, not T20I. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:31, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

ICC website too is finally showing the matches as T20s now Mashfi23 (talk) 17:21, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

More edit

@Bs1jac: - just watching the live start to the Ban/Sco World Cup match, and the Scotland team presented a cap to Chris Greaves for his debut! Even Cricinfo references this in their comms today - "The legspinner Chris Greaves makes his debut for Scotland. Or is it his debut? Scotland gave him a cap, but he played the one-off T20I against PNG earlier this month..." Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:54, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's weird. If they literally awarded him his first cap today, then the PNG game can't have been a T20I, which puts all of those games in question. Last time I looked, the Ire-UAE series was no longer marked as T20I on the ICC calendar, but you would think those and the Nam-UAE game would be fine as UAE didn't qualify. If anything, it's games between Sco-Nam-PNG that would be questionable. Bs1jac (talk) 15:20, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Very strange indeed! I didn't catch the matches played from the starting XI graphic at the start of the match, but one of the guys on comms stated that Greaves made his T20I debut against PNG earlier in the month. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:52, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Bs1jac: - today's update! Ruben Trumpelmann is playing today and the on-screen graphic on Sky Sports state it is his fifth T20I. When he played his first match of the World Cup, it was showing him as making his debut. So looks like everyone is in agreement that the Summer Bash matches do have T20I status. For now...!
