This is obviously an advert/spam. Marked for deletion.

THIS IS SPAMOLA CRAP and a FAILED attempt at trying to be the millionth article. Should be removed immediately!

I've undeleted this since it doesn't seem like a candidate for speedy deletion to me. It's not written like an advert, it was created by a genuine user with many other edits, and it's a notable website (Alexa rank over 4000). Angela. 23:23, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Angela. Yes, I was going for one million; however, I wasn't trying to cause controversy. Alex Krupp 00:34, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

It WAS written like an ad, but I deleted that part. Mocheeze 23:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad it hasn't been deleted. I did not know what Squidoo was, and this article was informative and useful. 137.161.244.253 (talk) 17:24, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Failed attempt at millionth article! edit

Since number 999,999 was deleted, this was the millionth article!

Actually, there more were deleted afterwards and probably more will be deleted in the future, too. But it's the first article that became 1,000,000th that counts. bogdan 00:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
This honour actually belongs to Jordanhill railway station. --Slgrandson 00:17, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I have a feeling that, if this had been #1000000, the WikiGods would have changed the timetables so that something less commercial won.--M@rēino 00:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pretty transparent attempt at free advertising. Ziggur 00:36, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

To clarify, I created the article. While Squidoo is a company, I am not an employee and do not stand to profit. Alex Krupp 00:48, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Don't stand to profit... oh really? Isn't that their business model? Share half of their revenue (after expenses and 5% to charity) with their users... ;) Not that it really matters, it is a notable article and should be in wikipedia anyway. Do you have a lense? PaulC/T+ 02:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I am a Squidoo user. However, all of the money generated during the beta test is donated to charity. Alex Krupp 02:30, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

WTH?? edit

How come this is known as the 1,000,001st article it was created on October 10th? I don't understand, and I looked at it in March, and didn't see that prior history before. How was this accomplished? --Shultz IV 05:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was deleted and then recreated. Alex Krupp 13:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree that it should be removed. If non-profit organizations like www.oondi.com, which is similar in concept, can't have an article on Wikipedia, neither should a commercially oriented company. Ken
If it's nonprofit, it ought to be "oondi.org" instead of implying commerciality with a .com address. *Dan T.* 12:14, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Revenue up? edit

If the revenue is unknown, why does the infobox have a green "up" sign? Can I remove it? Kushal 16:55, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've already removed it. Alexius08 (talk) 03:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Skimpy acknowledgment of Wikipedia extracts edit

One of the modules that anyone can include in a lens is Wikipedia. It reproduces either the intro to the WP article or a specified number of characters, and has an option of including what it determines is the main image. My "Porirua" lens is an example of the text presentation; I declined to include an image when I saw that it was bypassing the big location map in the infobox and choosing a flag of Australia from the sister-cities links.

The only mention of Wikipedia may be right at the end of the extract, in a link that invites readers to read the rest of the Wikipedia article. Squidoo readers would therefore get no indication of how to find the WP authors or even that the material is there under a slightly restrictive license. I'm sure it would be possible for Squidoo to incorporate more informative wording if WP requested it. Do any Wikipedia authors care one way or another?

As this does not involve discussion of how to improve our article on Squidoo, it might best be pursued elsewhere, such as the village pump. Regards, Skomorokh 03:39, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Criticism, spam on, for and via Squidoo? edit

No word on what role Squidoo plays in the black hat SEO, affiliate BS, traffic generating business, the spam and pseudo-lenses full of spam links? An article without that looks much like spam itself.80.171.57.121 (talk) 00:21, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possible conflict of interest edit

The user MeganCasey has self-identified as a co-founder of Squidoo and made edits to this article. Although they appear to be mostly benign, this should be closely watched. I have left a {{Welcome-COI}} message on her talk page reminding of her about Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. Drm310 (talk) 19:22, 24 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Shopping for a new Wiki farm edit

I am thinking about shopping for a new Wiki farm, with something that hasn't got such a steep learning curve, or where the tools are a little more intuitive. Further, having revenue come my way for once wouldn't hurt either. So why exactly is Squidoo mis-categorized as an educational site rather than a Wiki farm? And why is there no mention of revenue sharing? See Narayana Rao K.V.S.S. Knol for a better idea of what's going on outside the French castle. --TheLastWordSword (talk) 17:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blocked edit

Why is Squidoo blocked? I tried to add a Squidoo page as a reference on Womanizer (song) and was blocked before I could do it. --38.104.189.46 (talk) 14:46, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

For some inexplicable reason, an apparatchik at Wikipedia decided to add Squidoo.com to the "blacklist" of external sites, preventing any articles containing the full URL from being saved. One way to foil the filter, at least partially, is by using HTML encoding for some or all of the punctuation in the URL. So,
http://www.squidoo.com/
becomes
http://www.squidoo.com/
which looks like this:    http://www.squidoo.com/

It doesn't produce a clickable link, but at least the URL is complete and not mangled, so one can highlight it with the mouse, copy it and paste it into a new browser instance location window. Other methods may work, such as inserting spaces in the initial part of the URL so that the filters don't recognize it as Squidoo.com. That puts an extra burden on the reader, though, to remove embedded spaces before the URL will work in a browser. — QuicksilverT @ 22:27, 13 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Company edit

Why is the company behind Squidoo not mentioned? Stuff like physical address of headquarters office, legal name of company, where incorporated and so on. At the very least mention of the State or Territory is needed, especially if it is USA. Not being open about this kind of thing raises suspicions and alarms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.3.97.37 (talk) 18:21, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism following HubPages acquisition edit

It seems that certain people are unhappy with Squidoo's recent acquisition by HubPages, but Wikipedia is not the forum to vent such frustration. Thanks, --Soulparadox (talk) 08:51, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Indian Investment In Dubai Real Estate edit

India is one of the countries that investors frequently travel to, including Dubai. Indian investors have recently shown a great deal of interest in the Dubai real estate market and have been making aggressive purchases of homes all throughout the city. There are several factors contributing to this trend, from Dubai's advantageous economic environment to the close historical and cultural links between India and the UAE.

The emirate's welcoming investment environment is one of the main factors influencing Indian investment in Dubai real estate. For international investors, Dubai provides a variety of benefits, such as tax reductions and simplified corporate procedures. The city also boasts a developed infrastructure, a multicultural population, and a stable political climate. The prospect for significant returns on investment is one of the key fact driving Indian investment in Dubai real estate. For the past few years, Dubai's real estate market has been expanding gradually, and property values have been rising. For Indian investors aiming to increase their fortune, this, together with the tax-free environment and friendly legislation for international investors, has made Dubai an alluring location.

In addition, Dubai's strategic location between Europe, Asia, and Africa makes the city a centre for global trade, which has drawn many Indian companies to establish operations there. As a result, there are many investment possibilities available for Indian investors in both commercial and residential real estate. Also, Dubai's top-notch infrastructure, which includes its ports, airports, and road systems, has turned the city into a major international economic hub and a draw for foreign investment. Indian investors have taken note of these benefits and are becoming more interested in investing in Dubai's real estate market as a means to diversify their portfolio and profit from the expansion of this vibrant metropolis.
