When Rick Bauer married Mel Boudreaux, the officiator cited his authority under the State of Illinois. Also, when Ross Marler was running for mayor of Springfield, he made reference to Springfield as the birthplace of Lincoln and the state capital. However, this identity of Springfield was short-lived and Springfield now appears to be a fictional town again.
