Talk:Spirit world (Latter Day Saints)

Old comments edit

The contents of this page had been moved into the Spiritual world article. I have moved them back since the overwhelming usage in Mormonism is "spirit world".

It may eventually be necessary to create a specific article called "Spirit world (Mormonism)" to discuss this particular bit of Mormon theology. But for now it should at least be kept separate. -- andersonpd 01:24, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

FYI: This TALK page is now under 'Spirit world (Latter Day Saints)' -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 19:27, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

RE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Spirit_world

An expanded perspective on a study of the "Spirit World", a perspective that is much broader than the extremely narrow focus of Mormonism, is had by beginning with Clarence Larkin's study of the subject - "The Spirit World", and related scriptures quoted from The Christian Bible.

http://www.larkinbooks.com/Catalog/clarence-larkin-the-spirit-world.htm

"THE SPIRIT WORLD" covers the teaching of the Christian Holy Scriptures on the "Spirit World." It teaches on the "Power of Good and Evil," the "Underworld," "Satan," the "Fallen Angels," "Demonism," "Soul Sleep," the "Resurrections & Judgments" and "Heaven & Hell."

The Mormon perspective, alone, is far too limited and is a bit like science fiction when compared to what the Bible has to say on this matter.

This article is ABOUT the Church of Latter Day Saints beliefs on the matter. If you want perspective and discussion on OTHER churches, perhaps you should visit OTHER pages. I don't understand why there is a question on this here?

Why has the article been restricted to Mormonism? edit

It appears that many other religions have teachings related to a "Spirit World" (I would like to remark the complex theology of Spiritism regarding that matter). jggouvea 01:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

See Spirit world for other usage of the term. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 19:49, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge/Redirect edit

This discussion originally location at Talk:Spirit prison has been moved here to avoid cross-thread postings. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 22:42, 23 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Suggest this page (spirit prison) is simply turned from stub into REDIRECT (to) Spirit world (Latter Day Saints). There is now no unduplicated content. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:18, 20 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree; needless duplication at this point between spirit prison & Spirit world (Latter Day Saints). -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 22:34, 23 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I agree. There isn't enough of a reason to have two articles.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 15:34, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
The way things currently stand, a redirect would be fine for now. However, I think Spirit prison has the potential for being a pretty good article, and I've added it to my watch list, and my to-do list as an article to expand. I may not get to it for a few months though. -- Adjwilley (talk) 18:02, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Looks good here now. -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 19:31, 6 April 2015 (UTC) -- Great article placement (and graphic).Reply

Title and Name Technicality edit

If this article is referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (with a hyphen,) the church that was restored through Joseph Smith Jr. and continues today with about 14 million members (as of 2010) under the leadership of Thomas Spencer Monson, then the title in the article should be changed to contain a hyphen. If this article refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (without a hyphen,) a small Mormon religious group that was lead to Wisconsin by a man named James Strang, then leave it as it is without a hyphen. Since the smaller religious group of Latter Day Saints originally came from the Latter-day Saints, their doctrines of the Spirit World may be similar if not the same, but I think it would be best to correctly distinguish which church is referenced here.

Such information can be verified using the two churches' web sites.

Latter-day Saints (lead today by Thomas Monson): www.lds.org and www.mormon.org

Latter Day Saints (originally lead by James Strang): www.strangites.org — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.174.76.176 (talkcontribs)

The current name conforms to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Latter Day Saints). More than just the Latter-day Saints believe in the spirit world—all members of the Latter Day Saint movement believe in this. Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:47, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Everything here is fine. And FYI, the name of the LDS Church is 'The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' (capital 'T', hyphen, and lowercase 'd') not too hard to remember. -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 19:36, 6 April 2015 (UTC) -- Yes, this topic applies to the larger group, not just LDS.Reply

LDS April conference (world annual broadcast) edit

For editing purposes (especially for Spirit World references) you may be interested to know that I am keeping brief notes and putting them on my personal TALK page: User_talk:Charles_Edwin_Shipp#LDS_April_Conference.2C_world_broadcast.2C_April_4-5.2C_2015_.28Sat.2FSun.2C_10am.2F2pm_MT.29 -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 02:34, 5 April 2015 (UTC) -- PS: I'll add official references later.Reply

Popular use: permanent abode of sons of perdition edit

"It is believed by Latter-day Saints that very few people who have lived on the earth will be consigned to this state, but Latter-day Saint scripture suggests that at least Cain will be present." 1. Believed by who? Source? 2. There is evidence that there will be many sons of perdition. All those that receive the Holy Ghost, have the heavens opened unto them, and know God, and then sin against him. What about all the people that live during the millennium? Will not a great number of those have received the HG? Will they not know Christ personally (and therefore God)? 92.192.89.146 (talk) 18:38, 2 June 2016 (UTC) BobReply

I've added one ref, a statement made by an LDS Church apostle, that there will be "few" who defect to perdition. There's probably something better out there reference-wise. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:10, 2 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
