Name
editThe name can be updated when the tribunal is formally established. Boud (talk) 20:22, 19 January 2023 (UTC) But first we need a temporary pre-creation name, because the current name is confusing: ordinary people (and many journalists) can't easily see the difference between this tribunal and the International Criminal Court based on the current article name (International Criminal Tribunal for the Russian Federation).
- Euro Parl says special international tribunal to prosecute Russia’s political and military leadership and its allies
- CoE says an ad hoc international criminal tribunal to hold to account perpetrators of the crime of aggression
- Euro Commission says a specialised court, backed by the United Nations, to investigate and prosecute Russia's crime of aggression
- NATO parl assembly says an international tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression
Given that it's unclear if the tribunal would be limited to the 2022 invasion or also consider the 2014 invasion, it's better not to put "2022" in the name. The EuroParl's proposal to include Belarusian political/military leaders creates a problem for having Russia, as a state, in the title, though the invasions themselves are primarily Russian; the de facto government of Belarus allowed its territory to be used. Proposals:
- Special international tribunal for the crime of aggression
- Special international tribunal for the crime of aggression (Russian invasion of Ukraine)
- Special international tribunal (Russian invasion of Ukraine)
@Tataral, Onel5969, M.Ashraf333, Mccapra, Blaylockjam10, Triggerhippie4, and GhostInTheMachine: Please add arguments for/against 1 or 2 or 3, and/or propose other possible titles while waiting for the tribunal to be created. This is currently an informal discussion to generate a title likely to gain consensus prior to creation of the tribunal: there's no point putting in too much energy, since the official title will almost certainly be different from whatever we think is the best under the WP:TITLE criteria. Boud (talk) 20:44, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Done I chose the middle name since no arguments for/against any of the options were proposed in eight days. It's long, but it's the least ambiguous. Boud (talk) 19:30, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
Name
editNow that the centre is operational, I propose the article is renamed "International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine" and reworded accordingly. AndrewRT(Talk) 14:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Crimes against humanity category removal
editCrimes against humanity is a specific legal concept. In order to be included in the category, the event (s) must have been prosecuted as a crime against humanity, or at a bare minimum be described as such by most reliable sources. Most of the articles that were formerly in this category did not mention crimes against humanity at all, and the inclusion of the category was purely original research.
