Is this correct? see article on King William Street Station re use in 1890. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_William_Street_Station

Yes, it is correct. Although King William Street used the arrangement, it was not known as the 'Spanish Solution' until Spain had adopted it in the 1930's. If there was any justice in the world, it should really be called the 'English Solution'. 109.156.49.202 (talk) 19:17, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

I believe the term solution is the determing factor here. In the 1940s after the Spanish civil war, the metro line that is today line 1 saw a massive increas in ridership, the already built stations became very cramped and dangerous to use so when the municipalty decided to extend the line in the 1950s they build all the new stations (5 of them at the same time) with this solution. Acording to some estimation this was the most cramped metro line in the world during the 1950s.

With the later construction of line 5 and extensions of this line there were no use for this solution as the users were more evenly spread out over the network, you can se a massive drop in ridership when line 5 was put to use. Today line 1 handle about half as many passengers as during the 1950s despite the fact that is is twice as long with some 12 more stations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.54.206.89 (talk) 19:53, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
