Talk:Spanish Marine Infantry

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Banderswipe in topic "Marine Infantry"

I really don't like the tone this is written in, it somehow doesn't read like a wikipedia article should read. There's nothing wrong that I can see with what is written, only that it is written in a manner to praise the service, more like a website set up in it's honor then an encyclopedia. Can anybody second that opinion, and then maybe we can work toward modifying it? RudyB 01:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mixing up France with Spain? edit

Morocco (1911) is listed as a conflict the Marines were involved in, but in 1911 the only war in Morocco was the Second Franco-Moroccan War, while the Spanish-Moroccan war from 1859 is not mentioned. Is this a mix up of the two? Ebglider91 (talk) 05:29, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is not a mix at all. Within 1911-1921 took place the called "Rif War", orgined in the rebelion of moroccan mountain tribes against the colonilist power of France and Spain, althoug was Spain the counfry that suffered it in a more intensive way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.170.110.113 (talk) 19:31, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

In 1909 some Spanish miners were attacked by local tribesmen in Northern Morocco, that on paper was to become a Spanish protectorate in 1912. Due to that disturbances, the marines were deployed there in 1911 (and in 1909 a Spanish army infantry battalion had been caught off guard and overrun by the natives at a place called Barranco del Lobo -Wolf's Ravine-, and there had been as well a huge popular uprising in Barcelona against the recruiting of reservists for Morocco: the Tragical Week). The 2 marine expeditionary battalions deployed in Northern Morrocco in 1911 were merged into a marine regiment in 1912. The Riffi War was in the 1920s (the Spanish marines took part in the French and Spanish landing of Alhucemas in 1926). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.85.148.202 (talk) 18:23, 14 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Marine Infantry" edit

There are two English-language terms for designating such troops: "naval infantry" or "marines". The term "marines" is the official name of the naval infantry of the US and the UK, perhaps others as well. But the phrase "marine infantry" is clearly incorrect.
