Talk:Spanish Jennet Horse

Latest comment: 5 years ago by Justlettersandnumbers in topic Notability as a "breed"

The Spanish Jennet Horse is a horse in history that is being resurrected as a breed by the Spanish Jennet Horse Society.

It is not appropriate to submerge this information in another article that has little to do with this reemerging breed.

Notability as a "breed" edit

Per the Sponenberg article and other sources (Deb Bennett's Conquerers:Roots of New World Horsemanship being another), I must clarify that this is not the "resurrection" of the original Spanish Jennet (which was, by the way, a type, not a breed), no matter what its PR web site may claim. The Spanish Mustang is said to be one of the closest descendants of the true Jennet, as are, most likely, the Paso Fino and Peruvian Paso. This is basically a Paso Fino with Spots and is a new breed registry. To say it is the true Jennet would violate WP:NPOV and WP:VERIFIABILITY. No argument that some Jennets may have had spots (Bennett agrees on that point, actually), but an eight year old registry not backed by any other foundation or project does raise WP:NOTABILITY questions, hence the tag. I could only find ONE article on this "breed" and that was its registry site. All other references are to the historic Jennet or pages to horses for sale. This "breed" is not listed at the International Museum of the Horse site, nor is it approved by the USEF nor is there any other evidence that it is more than a promotional organization for its members. But if someone cares enough to defend the article, I will leave it for now, just adding tags and some clarification of exaggerated statements. Montanabw(talk) 06:52, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Has anything in the above changed since 2008, Montanabw? If not, I think it's time to put this baby to sleep. If the merge/redirect I've proposed doesn't fly I'll probably take it to AfD. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:03, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
