Mechanics of materials edit

Are the formulas from the mechanics of materials within the WP:SCOPE for this article? It is just one of the very many equations involving the span, chosen for unclear reasons. See, for example, few more formulas in Deflection (engineering)#Simply supported beams. My proposal is to remove the formulas and associated text from this article.
