Apteryx australis lawryi edit

Wikispecies seems to have Apteryx australis lowryi [1], not sure who is right. --Tony Wills (talk) 03:27, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Found a copy of the source cited by wikispecies, Bulletin of the British Ornithologists' Club, clearly has lawryi named after Sir W. Lawry Buller, so that's clear (to me :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 09:19, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Range map edit

On that note, I don't get the range map. Why is there a separate colour for the species? Surely, all populations must belong to either of the two subspecies. FunkMonk (talk) 03:33, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I expect all the Fiordland birds are Apteryx a. a., but I am a little lacking in clear sources ;-). I was just putting together info from existing maps like
If you can tell me what's right or point me in the direction of actual sources, I will amend the map :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 08:45, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
The main kiwi article says "The Northern Fiordland Southern Brown Kiwi (Apteryx australis ?) and Southern Fiordland Tokoeka (Apteryx australis ?) live in the remote southwest part of the South Island known as Fiordland" so maybe not yet named - it's all very confusing really ;-). Must get these articles to be consistent with one another. --Tony Wills (talk) 09:52, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what's going on, just noticed the inconsistency. What was it based on? FunkMonk (talk) 10:48, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Possibly from [2] (via one of the references to the BNZ recovery program). Possibly best to just re-lable the map with the common names for birds found in all four regions (Haast, Northern Fiordland, Southern Fiordland and Stewart Island). I suppose it will take a while before there is a consensus as to what are different species and what are just variations. --Tony Wills (talk) 19:48, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
New map is much better. FunkMonk (talk) 01:44, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
A little better, I have been trying to find references that actually suggest the mainland birds are differentiated into separate species, but nothing really does. So I think I will amend the wording of the main kiwi article, and change that map again so that it doesn't imply separate species in those three areas until we have some definitive references to support different species names. --Tony Wills (talk) 21:31, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Added link edit

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

Hi, not sure what heading this follows under but just wanted to note I added a wikilink from Stewart Island under Conservation to the Geography of New Zealand article.Cnb8201 (talk) 11:07, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cnb8201; no need to leave a Talk page note when you add a wikilink, just note it in the edit summary. Actually, that Stewart Island link would be better pointing to the Stewart Island article, so I'll change it. Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 12:01, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
